Running a restaurant is hard work.
Local place here had a solid reputation.
    Loyal return customers.
    Good food.
Guy running it wanted to pass it down to his daughter. Who had grown up working in the place.
    She said NO WAY!
Dad sold it off and closed down.

I suspect that happens quite a bit. It has happened to a few here in our town as well.

It Wasn't meant as a racist thing. It was a family restaurant themed around 2 children's books. Books only considered racist when it became a tool for marxists, both white and black.

You also would have been called a real fascist if you even considered banning books for a theme you decided 75 years later isnt as pure as you think it should be.

    Oh how things changed.

    Detour.

ETA I wonder if the books are worth more banned? I still got them in some 50 year old kids books, you never throw books away lest you be a real fascist.

Sad, just a few generations removed from real fascists the holocaust and even surviving jews and their direct descendants become servile socialist cucks.

When I was a kid we had and I loved the story of "Little Black Sambo". I think we had it on vinyl too.

There were three at one time, to be exact...

    1546 N. Babcock Road
    1106 Vance Jackson
    6503 Military Drive W.

I don't think any of the buildings are still around...

The chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 1981. All locations except for the first in Santa Barbara either closed outright, or were renamed after being purchased, effectively ending the chain's existence.

The Santa Barbara restaurant continued business under the Sambo's name until 2020. The George Floyd protests forced the owner of the restaurant to change the name of the establishment. :(:(:(

    Walzem Rd. (Windcrest)

    Universal City (almost SA)

As per the list in the link Todd posted.

One of the best burger joints in Texas is in Arkansas.
TLC Burger and Fries, located in old downtown Texarkana, AR.

    Mills,

YEP. TLC is in Miller County, AR

Is MINUTE MAN CHARCOAL BURGERS still "on the Arkansas side", too?? = I was, in my youth, known for eating TWO of their gigantic DOUBLE-DOUBLE Cheeseburgers.
(Each Double-Double had a HALF-POUND of freshly ground chuck on it, plus cheese, grilled mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, onion & various dressings.)

At 73YY, I wonder how I ever did that ONCE, much less several times a month.
(In those "Days of Yore", my GF was a RN student at a Miller County hospital, so I was "over there" quite often.)

    ....
(For example just last Friday I was told by a former waitress that WEN WA, my favorite Chinese local "hole in the wall" cafe, will CLOSE FOREVER & LIKELY before Christmas. = She said that WEN WA has lost money nearly every month since March trying to "survive COVID19" on "take out" alone.)

    yours, satx

I think a lot of that will depend on the election. One party wins and those losses can carry forward and be deducted from next years income. The other party wins and it's likely everyting gets taxed.

Restaurants go to 75% next week. From what I understand, they can make money at that level.

They're pretty good & still there.

    TX OMFS,

YEP. Still there & QUITE GOOD burgers, too.
(Their "chicken strips with cream gravy", served with hand-dipped onion rings are my personal favorite. = The chicken "strips" are actually battered/skinless/deep fried chicken breast halves.)

The full-size portions at Longhorn are so BIG that I frequently order "the child's plate".
    (I'd bet that you didn't know that I was < 12YO?? = CHUCKLE.)

Many years ago, I use to eat at Goodson's Cafe in Tomball. The hamburgers and fries were quite good. Nothing fancy, but good.

But where they really shined, was the CFS platter. Probably one of the better ones I have had in any restaurant over the years.

BTW, the old downtown is a freaky place, old abandoned buildings and such.
    But great burgers !

    San Antonio!
Marvin Hurst is a local reporter who does a segment called 'Neighborhood Eats' on KENS5. Marvin is a great guy and knows good food, but like all such reviews it is highly subjective. Here is his Facebook post today...and he included pics of each so my stomach is grumbling! ;) ;);)

I apologize in advance for any hunger and stomach grumbling this post may cause. It's National Cheeseburger Day! So, I went through some of my favorites from Neighborhood Eats. IF I could have my picks right now, in no particular order, here's what came to stomach---I mean mind :

    1. Mr. Juicy
    2. Papa's Burgers
    3. Everybody Loves Raymonds
    4. Fatt Boys Burgers & Dogs
    5. Brenda's Burgers
    6. Longhorn Cafe
    7. Loop 107 Burgers, Bakery & More
    8. Mad Mack's Burgers
    9. Brown's Drive-In (Kerrville)
    10. San Antonio Burger
    11. Chester's
