    I was thinking that it could be done on the right side or front magwell of an AR-15 receiver. I guess I should have asked if you can do the imaging either way. By 'either way', I mean engrave the eyes and the mouth as the negative space. Or, better yet, engrave the eyes and the mouth in the positive space and have the rest of the face recessed. If the whole of the face was sunken in, it would leave the black eyes and mouth raised, and colorfill would be easier in the recesses.

    Yes a combination could be done, the feature raised, and "possibly" the recess color filled, but certainly the physical shapes could be cut in/left proud depending.
