Genuinely don't want LEO hurt, but over a lawn? Gotta say that there needs to be different tactics on a person's own property. Guess we'll never know why he didn't want it cut, eh? Wasn't worth escalating into killing the guy.
He was the one who started shooting.

He was the one who escalated his lawn getting mowed and maybe a fine to agg assault.

He was entirely in control of his destiny and at any point could have chose a peaceful ending where neither he nor anyone else got hurt.

I had a shower and still smell like house fire smoke....

Xoxo to all and to all good night.

None of you guys popping off read the story.

For Austin to send out a lawn service this has been ongoing for months at least. He ignored all that contact.

Then he started shooting at the lawn mowers.
Then he set his house on fire.
Then he came out armed and he controls the whole situation right up till they decided not to let a guy with a gun, who has already fired at people leave a contained area in a neighborhood.

The police are only responding to the shots fired. There may have been issues dealing with this up till then but that's not on the police. Researching the history and the medical status is kinda difficult in these situations and would make no difference once he fired the first round.

Some of you folks let your bias over ride critical thinking skills. Shameful. Seriously.

Where some patrol vehicles have "To Protect and Serve."
The Austin Patrol Prius says "Mow Your Lawn or Else."

When the SHTF do we wonder which departments will enforce illegal edicts from their elites.

    This is so Florida-like...

Austin homeowner refuses to mow lawn,
Code Enforcement sends lawn crew to mow lawn.
Homeowner starts shooting at lawn crew.
SWAT team shows up to besiege “barricaded” homeowner.
    House somehow catches fire.
Homeowner is shot dead by cops.
    House burns down.

Was David Chipman on scene for this? Janet Reno consulting for APD?

That's a shitty, sad situation. Sounds like the home owner had some untreated mental health issues.

    FIFY.

Hey, y’all remember that guy the police shot just because he walked in to a gas station. Think it was Mike Brown or something.

Or that guy that got killed just for going to a theater dressed as the Joker? Boy, talk about some Jack boots.

All these innocent victims…I wonder how Harambe would feel about all of this.

Yeah, but the law system is broken somewhere for it to get to that point. I'm sorry, if I was an officer, I'd have wanted to tell the lawn people to leave and backed off. Yeah, he shouldn't have shot at the lawn people, but if you think about it, apparently the city is willing to use deadly force over code compliance, and he was willing to use deadly force to keep those he didn't want on his property off of his property. Not seeing where the city has the genuine moral high ground. It's a good thing I'm not a cop because I probably would have refused to participate.

    Gunz are icky.
So let me get this straight...........
The City of Austin got butthurt enough about an overgrown lawn to send out people to remedy it yet allows utter filth and trash to exist under damn near every overpass in the city?
    WTF is up with that?
There is a Karen involved somewhere. Bet on it. I'd bet she lives on the guys street.

But, seriously, if you are interested, here is the article. This isn't the first of this type of vehicle, but it does look a little more baked than most I have seen so far. They are only making 12 their first year. Collectible potential!

The guy made an unreasonable escalation.

I don’t like Austin, HOAs, Code enforcement, etc. but I don’t see how anyone can seriously be that critical of the response.

It’s like he told the city to **** around and find out, then he fucked around and found out. If I decide to shoot at the meter reader I would fully expect out sheriffs department to show up in force. If i shoot at them I would expect that I may pay with my life.

This isn’t even close to a case of “mow your lawn or get shot”.

Yeah, I'm not defending his actions, and I do get that I might feel as you do if I'd been on scene, but from the step back and observe point of view it seems like whatever got all the parties to that point there was wrong on the part of more parties than the dead guy.

    Yep.

The police were 100% justified in killing him because he escalated to the point of trying to kill people that weren't trying to kill him first.

Everything leading up to that point though, was a cluster. IF code enforcement people said 'okay, we'll come back another time' and sent someone by to talk to him - or even had the PD do it, or request the local Constables do it, or had the PD escort one of those mental health people you hear the lefties talk about a lot - maybe just maybe he wouldn't have shot at people and tried to Waco himself.

Definitely some Karens involved, because the news said code enforcement came out because of complaints by the neighbors. You know what they didn't say? That they neighbors got together to help him cut the damn grass. Maybe instead of dropping a dime to the city - the concerned neighbors could've come to him with their concerns and offered help.

Maybe they did - he rebuffed them because he's a nutter - we don't know at this point.

Its a shame the dude died, because it seems a case of being very preventable if the situation leading to the shooting had been handled differently, but ultimately he made the decision to kill someone (thankfully he was unsuccessful) over defending his property.
