The timing of the ATF approvals don’t make any sense.

Suppressor: CGS MOD-9SK (Paper File) 368 days and counting.
    Date ATF Suppressor Submission: 11/4/2021
Date ATF Approved Suppressor: no received yet

Suppressor: Rugged Micro30 (eFile) - 114 days to approve
    Date ATF Suppressor Submission: 1/31/2022
    Date ATF Approved Suppressor: 5/25/2022

Submitted three (3) Form 1s (SBR) via eFile on 10/25/2022. Received stamp for one (1) on 11/2/22 (8 days) and still waiting on the other two.

Doesn’t make any sense. If they are running background check and whatever else they do to approve one SBR why wouldn’t they do all three at the same time? Makes no sense to do one and not all three at the same time.

I've asked multiple times now and my understanding is its just an in-depth background check. Just like the one they do for your concealed carry license. Probably not as in-depth if you were applying for a government security or building demolition explosives license but I'm right there with you. It makes no sense for a computerized background check to take longer than say, a week with database batching.

Aside from the "ATF shouldn't exist" mentality, I have no idea what they're actually doing. Running your forms through some database then the computer says if you're good or not. It can't be a "data entry" thing anymore with a human element considering eFiles are electronic. Maybe some human checking if you put ZMb-KILL on your form and the computer flags that 1 lowercase letter as unusual but I'm genuinely curious as to why it takes 6+ months for most stamps. My only assumption is they have agents on a rotating duty schedule of "on Monday mornings you'll go through form 1's and form 4's, then on tuesday you'll go through FFL paperwork". Instead of just having an office of agents doing form 1/4's all day every day.

eForm Form 1 SBR submitted 8/11/22 finalized 10/7/22
eForm Form 1 DD submitted 8/11/22 finalized soon hopefully?
    .

The DD eForm didn't get finalized until 11/9. So they didn't seem to batch process that. I also had some paper form 4s in since early this year that didn't seem like they got batch processed with the SBR. Maybe if I keep buying more things I will eventually get something batch processed :)

    Received a Efile stamp for a customer .... submitted 3/21/22 received 11/21/22.
Looks like 8 months will be the norm for a while.

It's never going back down, this was just for easier tracking. They would have to hire 50 more ATF form approvers to get the queue back down.

EDIT-- here is a google doc calculator based on E-Form4 individual wait times..

Current actual receipt time is 250 days. If you submitted today based on the trend you'd be looking at.. and I'm not joking here 6/21/2025

ATF's internal goal is 90 days, clearly they're blowing by that every since e-file started. I think once as year they do a few weeks of extra agents and rack up overtime hours to pad the budget saying they need more budget for more agents then stop when they get the money. I got my e-file done 9/1 and the gun store, forums and silencer shop were jumping up and down about how some were getting approved at the 4-6 month range. Now it's at 8 months approval average, with paper files at 14 months.

No crystal ball here but I won't be shocked to see e-file approvals to out at 12 months and paper files go to 18 in the coming years. There's no incentive to reach their own 90 day target and can always use that to get more budget. I applaud silencer shop for all their work but I imagine it will only serve to drive some sales for them now, but improve the process.

You'll be lucky to get that suppressor by this time next year.

Current wait time average on Eform 4 is 270 days. It's been taking them about 2.5 months to get through 1 month of forms. We currently just started April yesterday.

I'm not understanding why though. I realize different depts. of the same agency but, wouldn't the form 4 and form 1 go through the same check?

I would think form 1s are alot for common then form 4s will all the brace hysteria going on.

If the ATF ruling stands SCOTUS challenges then yes the Form 1 times will jump from weeks to years. There are millions of braces out there.
