I have never hunted. Don't really know anything about it, legalities, that kind of thing, so please bear with me.

I was reading an article in the current Guns & Ammo about high caliber hand cannons and loads. They were showing a picture where some guy had taken down some big ass African yak looking thing with one shot from a scoped S&W Model 500 with a .50 S&W Magnum load. One shot. Boom. Dead where it was standing. They said it could also take down an African bison in one shot.

So I was wondering, me not knowing anything about hunting, what is the legality of hunting with a scoped 50 caliber handgun as far as the letter of the law goes in Texas? I figure a .50 S&W Magnum round would nearly vaporize a deer and make it inedible, but is it legal to do?
