May one always disconnect from a 911 call?

Yes. Lawyers and other knowledgeable folks advocate hanging up after providing a brief statement, name, location, nature of call etc. in a defensive gun incident. The more one says on the phone which is recorded can be used against you in court. The article and videos on this topic explain what happens all too often from blabbing on the phone. If you can get someone else to make the call on your behalf. Win the race to call 911 if the scene is safe.

that brief statement can come back and bite you in the ass hard so keep it to a min if anything at all.

Something along the lines there was a self defense action and police and medical personnel are requested.

    That's what I thought.
If it was me involved in a DGU, I would most likely be on my cell. If so, I can turn it off. I don't know of any ability for someone to remotely turn my phone on completely. Yes, the tech exists for folks to listen in or track you, even when the phone is off, but I don't think anyone can turn it back on.

So it looks to me like it is possible to hang up on 911. Maybe not, though. The phreaking culture is something I haven't dipped a toe in for over 20 years.

I seem to remember something about 911 being able to "lock" your phone on.

I could also be absolutely wrong in what I'm remembering.

Further discussion on what if anything to say when making the 911 call after a defensive gun use. Read more at Truth about Guns. Article courtesy of U.S. LawShield (Disclosure: U.S. LawShield is a sister company of TTAG.)

Since even a justified shooting is likely to leave you frantic and agitated, one defense attorney with U.S. Law Shield I spoke with advises you to keep things simple and to the point, using the acronym: NASH’D. This stands for:

    NAME,

    ADDRESS,

SHORT TRUTHFUL STATEMENT of what happened,

    ask for HELP,

    and DISCONNECT.

And here is Part II from Truth About Guns blog.

    SILENCE IS GOLDEN

It may not feel natural to call for help, and then fall completely silent as a 911 operator asks you for details on the other end of the line. Police, when they arrive, might not be happy about it either, but that’s not your problem. Your job is to look out for yourself, not them. You’re protecting yourself from a future trial, and for that, silence never hurts and talking rarely helps.

“Adrenaline is not a truth serum,” Kilgo adds. “In the heat of the moment, humans experience tunnel vision, memory occlusion and elevated vital signs.” There’s virtually zero chance your perception, memory and recall will all be intact and functional after the most savage and excitable moments of your life.

More on this topic from Washington Gun Law if only showing your gun followed by actions after defensive gun use.

I note a theme among supporter of 2A who are lawyers. The less one says the better off you will be if you go through the legal system. Let your lawyer do the talking.
