You could do an ar15 but in BO, 40wt or 30-223. Light weight but decent performance. X39 or 30/30. Ar10 carbines aren't that heavy, rifles are.

PSA has complete AR10's for $480. Check out gundeals.com would be cheaper than building.

Or less...I got a PSA AR10 complete lower, and PSA 6.5 CM complete upper, for $450

PSA is going crazy with the deals these days.

If your starting a new build and want to take a more hands on approach, I recommend starting with an 80% lower. Its been a fun learning experience, building from the ground up and alot easier than you would expect. I bought an AR-308 80% lower jig from 5D tactical at https://www.5dtactical.com/ar-308-lower-jigs-s/107.htm and picked up their 80% lower to get started. It was super easy to use, inexpensive and didn't require any special equipment. I just used a makita hand router and was able to start my build. Its been alot of fun so far and since its gen 1 dpms pattern, it is highly compatible and there have been alot of easy to find parts available as ive progressed with the build. If your interested in going that route, I highly recommend 5D Tactical for the cost effectiveness and how easy it makes the build.

Well, 6.5CM is a high-pressure round after all...

In the interests of recoil management and proactively avoiding/minimizing carpal tunnel, one does occasionally need to make sacrifices ;)

i just built my 1st, which is a 308/ar10 platform.

i got the 80% lower from noreen and a discontinued noreen 308 jig from brownells. bought a HF router and finished the lower. got a lower parts kit LPK, stock/buffer/spring.. basically the entire lower half. bought a 2nd hand complete upper that was basically brand new. went & put some rounds through it & got my 1st taste of all the tuning that is required to make the weapon reliable.

with that being said, any $500 .308 pattern rifle is going to require another $100-200 in upgrades and several hours time to slow the gas & recoil down. adjustable gas block, heavy buffer & spring, etc.

i’m still reading, researching & tinkering to get it dialed in. btw i’m on a dpms 1st gen pattern which is the most common... these are known as LR308 or DPMS gen1 when shopping for compatible parts & mags. can’t use anything (2) small frame dpms gen2 or (3) SR25 the ‘knights armament’ line aka KAC, Armalite, Bushmaster. those round out the 3 different receiver styles previously mentioned.

    Yeah it’s confusing.
I’m just gonna stick with PSA parts for my PSA build.

Just waiting for a blemish 308 upper to go on sale, to give my 6.5 CM build some company...I’ll use the same lower for both.

Yeah I was shopping for 308 but the blem complete 6.5CM upper deal was too good to pass up.

Sadly I’ve only put 4 rounds thru it, all at 100 yards.

The first one was way left but was able to walk the other three pretty close, until I froze my ass off...yes, it’s been sitting since last winter

I was gonna shoot more a few weeks ago, but like an idiot I forgot to bring a mag.
