If you already have a 5.56 lower, a CMMG Banshee 9mm upper is a sweet quick swap option. I installed a standard carbine spring and Kynshot hydraulic buffer into my Spikes Cal-Multi lower and it is a good combo for 5.56, 300 BLK, and 9mm. Endomag inserts for Magpul 5.56 magazines eliminate the need for magwell blocks. They run well. I have thousands of rounds downrange and no problems. Plus I can switch between 5.56, 300 BLK, and 9mm uppers in seconds at the range.

How does that JP setup work out...is it a noticeable improvement?

It's very reliable, albeit expensive. But if you're shooting with a can, you start to really hear the crunchy springs in the buffer. Then you can't stop hearing it. So the SCS is noticeably quieter...and a little Gucci. We've sold quite a few of them with the builds. Some people are doing budget guns; other are doing "give me the best". But even our best builds are $1000 cheaper than some online builders with all the same or better parts. I run the SCS in my 300 pistol and my AR10 6.5CM.

All of my ARs are *legally* handguns, regardless of what their current configuration might be. I always start a build with no stock on it, just the buffer tube. I then take it to the range and fire it some. I can now truthfully say that it started out as a handgun regardless of what configuration it has been in since then.

The last one I built was from a non-anodized lower that I had around, but had never used plus a handgun kit that was around $250 from Palmetto Armory. Similar to this one:

I'm kicking around the idea of picking up a Ruger AR pistol.

I'm worried that the door is going to close on this type of firearm and want to get in before it does.

    Any thoughts?

Have you built an AR before? I build all mine and usually I’m pretty competitive on pricing because I buy quality parts when they are on sale. I understand this is a sooner than later deal for you, but it’s a very straight forward process and if you’re interested I can share a build sheet on the parts I normally use on my builds. Also the only difference between between my pistol builds and rifle/SBR builds is typically the braves bs stock and sometimes what I hang off the rail.

    AR15 Pistol 9mm.JPG

I started with an Adam Arms 5.56 AR15 pistol, Then a PSA 9mm AR15 pistol that uses Glock magazines and just recently built a 10mm AR that uses Glock magazines. I just ordered a 300 BO Upper I will use on the AA pistol lower.
