It depends on how long you think you'll have to endure eating it.
If it's all about getting calories in to keep from starving that's one thing but longer term..people with health issues..you bet...diabetes have a whole other problem with those pre packed things
    This would be my issue.
But I'm sure I could live 2 years without watching what I ate.

I figure I only have a couple or five more years anyway.

    In the woods...
I've got enough Wise, Mountain Home, Auguson Farms, Spam, Tuna, Dinty Moore, Sue Bee Dumplings, canned chicken, and sardines to last me and one other about nine months.

Squirrels, rabbits, deer, dove, will be mixed in if still around. Goodness knows I've been feeding them long enough and the time may come for them to feed me.

Meanwhile, I mentioned to my son that he might want to start stocking up on long-term food, and he told me the plan for his family was just to make it to my place.

    Sigh...

After Y2K I was watering my lawn 16.8 oz at a time for almost 18 months.

Get a Berkey or some other water filtration system. All the long-term foods require water for prep.

I use my Berkey to filter my tap water. The difference is crazy. I use it for cooking, coffee, tea - everything but bathing and washing dishes.

true, but i figure if you are gonna need it it will be be in 2-3 years tops, and if we can make it 4 years, and stuff is panning out OK, just eat it, and skip HEB for a while.

Home Depot sells these for $8 with a lid.
Slightly more than the orange buckets but they’re certified food-grade

If it comes to getting really hungry expiration dates won't matter.
I am well stocked on can goods, beans and rice, instant potatoes and powered milk.
    And water.
If I still have electricity my freezer and refrigerator freezer are full.
And a generator. Propane and charcoal cookers.
