When the weather turns cool I try to get out and hike through McCallister whenever time allows. I've been wanting to go to Govt Canyon, but haven't met anyone to go with yet. Any TGT folks spend anytime in those locations? Always looking to meet new folks.

I go to McCallister often as I am rather close, however it is generally with my daughter during the week. Government Canyon always looked like a great place to explore but I haven't got out there to really do anything other then ride around when I was showing some people around.

If you plan on doing any hiking there put up a post here and if I can I will try to join you. My schedule usually clashes with most so I have to take it on a case by case basis.

Also, there was a rather active SA lunch crew, you may want to look it up and post something there. it would be a good way to meet most of the SA area members.

I mounted biked McAllister many years ago, and did the same at Govt Canyon many (but less) moons ago as well. The latter is a bit more wild, lots of animals who mainly come out at night but you still have to be very aware of them.

They recently identified dinosaur tracks in GC, I don't know if that will increase visitors to that park but it would still be my first recommendation for some fun hiking!

My sister saw an alligator at McAllister park last week while walking her three dogs. She pulled them back, then went in a "safe" direction. She called SAPD on her mobile phone to report the sighting. The dispatcher was totally perplexed and said she probably saw a feral hog.

My sister told the dispatcher that she's seen plenty of feral hogs, deer, rattlers, skunks, & coons at McAllister, but none of them looked like a gator.

Case closed, until that gator eats a visitor.

I mountian biked McAllister for man years until they tore up the trails for the improvements they made. I moved closer to Gov Canyon and ride there as frequently as possible. The "front country" is the place to start. The back country is long and hilly.
