Over the weekend had a friend ask about reloading some 9mm for him.
Told him bullets and primers were in short supply and expensive.
Last night I looked and ran the numbers.
WOW. I was amazed were things are now.
I had heard about primers being stupid high and bullets about the same.
If you were starting from scratch, I think I have all listed below.
Rounded up for shipping, hazmat, etc.
    .01 Powder charge (about any)
    .055 9mm brass (range brass)
    .082 115 gn. RN Bullet (6-8 delivery)
    .12 Small pistol primer (GunBroker)

    .267, or .27 per round

The brass may be high. I don't for sure. that was a quick look a few places and that was lowest I found.

What is amazing is that in most of 2018 and all of 2019 you could have it delivered to your door for .16 to .17 a round.

Are there actual bids on the primers at that price?

I have seen some way overpriced items posted for sale, but dont consider it to be the going rate unless people are actually paying the prices.

In the last month i have scored 5k spp and 5k srp for normal pricing using in stock notifications. I wouldnt pay gunbroker prices. Thats as bad as cheaper than dirt.

Is it still worth getting into reloading?
    Yes!
If you start now, when stuff is back in stock you will be ready for it. In the mean time, but what you can at reasonable prices. When the hard to get stuff is back, you will already have everything else.

Yes, people are buying them at that price because they need them to make ammo. If it between 120 a brick or shutting down production, you pay it.. or rather you pass the cost onto the end consumer.

Start getting into it now and you will be ready for the next shortage.

    Personal suggestion:

Whatever your monthly or yearly average usage (in each caliber), when availability comes back and prices go back to normal-if they ever do this time, lol- stock up on enough for 3-5 years of shooting.

Likewise, even if you don't reload, I'd suggest buying enough powder, primers, and projectiles to load enough for 3-5 years, too.

If you never use it, you definitely won't have lost anyting- prices never go down- and you can always sell it off in the next price run up.

I'm probably not going do much, if any, hand loading any more as I do not get the opportunity to shoot much. If anyone around here is interested in purchasing what I've got (including powder, etc.) I'm up for making a deal. I'm going to the "for sale" threads in the next few days, weeks, etc. and put an add up.

If you have pistol primers there may be a death match on here to get them from you!

Can you let me know what reloading equipment you may be getting rid of? I've been thinking about getting into reloading myself.

    Thanks
