The best and most economical ammo storage containers are not one and the same. However, if you are looking for a good ammo storage option that is also economical - ammo cans with a good seal are an okay choice. To get them more economically, get the largest size you can find like those that were used to hold mortar shells. Just bear in mind that once full of ammo, you might not be able to lift the larger variety of such cans on your own.

Opinions on best and most economical ammo storage containers
Best container is quality US made GI ammo cans in good shape with good seals.

Most economical are the Lowe’s and Home Depot 5 gallon buckets with lids.

I use a combination of plastic MTM containers, Cabelas plastic containers, and GI cans.

I add desiccant packs to every container.

.50 cal ammo cans... One type can for everything. If it's full of any ammo, it's as much as you want to carry, except maybe one in each hand to balance the load. And, they stack well.

G.I. cans may be a bit better quality, but those you can pick up at Walmart, Harbor Freight, or Tractor supply will work just fine, IMO.

30 and 50 cal metal ammo cans are hard to beat.

A gun safe works well too if you're not concerned about portability.

    Out here by the lake!
    Get a dolly gramps
The wife & I are so old & gimpy that I bought a kids wagon to drag groceries in. The problem is my back limits what I can lift. A fat fifty can is pushing the limits.

Ask those that have shot with me an empty fat fifty can is generally my goal after dragging the guns & ammo out.

While working the renfest I seen many a Chicom Harbor Frieght dolly phuc up. The axels bend the rims go to shit, even with upgraded tires I don’t see any value in a dolly.
