I know that everyone has their opinions on the Amazon Echos. I'm not asking about that. I asking those people that have them, what do you use them for? My wife has casually asked about getting one but, she doesn't know why. I'm not worried about being spied on, I figure I'm already on lists everywhere.

If you have the Echo, what do you use them for?

I use them, I have a smart house. Turn lights on and off, control thermostat, ask questions. Mostly when I'm watching TV and want to know if an actor is still alive or how old they are. I ask what is the temperature going to be at 6am. I also have the "show" I can see my Ring camera's on it, answer the door. I love gadgets, if I was to die my wife would ditch it.

kitchen timer, control lights, alarm reminders, weather forecast, play Jeopardy. shop Amazon specials.

I don't worry about government spying, I've had top secret special access clearances. There isn't anything about me they don't already know. My neighbors would freak out when the investigators came by asking about me.

It's gimmick pretty much. Lots of people just like having high-tech devices to do things for them.

When I think about newer technology, I think of it in these terms: Is it really making my life easier or better, or just making me a little more lazy?

Oh yeah like my Roomba, my brother said he thought I was retired and had a lot of time for cleaning.

If you depend on these gizmos, eventually, you'll be 'the spied upon drooling/disgusting' 'Jabba The Hut' who can't bear to go outside because they can't demand the sun to shine a little less or more, the wind to blow a little less or more, for the trees to stop shedding leaves, or order food without even getting up off their fat, lazy asses and worse...

Depend upon this gadgetry at your peril...

I ride a fat tire bicycle, in fact over 9,500 miles since April 2016.

I've always been against them. Won't use them personally.

    But.....

We have the no cell phones upstairs in bedrooms policy with our kids. My teenage daughter just wants to listen to music and be in her room alone. I can hear her singing thru the walls so I know that's all she is doing.

If the Chinese want to spy on that go ahead. At least it will help keep my kids out of porn and other internet trouble.

Honestly they are the same as having and using a Google widget on your phone.
