So I've got a POF AR10 in 6.5CM w/20" barrel. I just got a used Athlon Cronus 4.5-29x56 that came with a pair of 1" NF ultralight rings.

With those rings, the front of the optic is hard on the rail...so I have to raise it, obviously.

Does tolerance stacking apply to scope mounting? I'd rather not have to buy a set of $200+ rings... It seems to me that if the riser can lock down tight enough that it won't matter, but this is the very first high $ optic (to me, that's defined as over $1000) I've ever owned and don't want to chase my tail if there's something I'm not thinking of/planning for.

    Thanks in advance,
    Robert

If you want the absolute best accuracy then get new rings.

If you aren’t OCD then you will probably never notice a difference.

Ohhh...nice scope. I've been looking at the Athlon Argos 8x34 to put on my Ruger Predator 6.5cm. I've got 2 ar10 lowers to build & 1 will be in 6.5cm since I'm already set up for reloading 6.5cm. When I get the Argos it will probably get swapped to the ar platform.

I think I'm going to at least shoot a load development series through it with the riser...if I start seeing moving POI or zero-shift type stuff, I'll put a full mount or taller rings on it.

Really, I'm just waiting to run into a smoking deal on either a tall mount or good quality tall rings... I almost never buy gun stuff new. Too many good deals come along, too often. My problem is ignoring the good deals I don't need :)

I've got a set of 1" Burris rings I'll give you. You just have to drive to Abilene on a weekend to get them.
Pretty sure they're high rings. Might be mid. I'll check Thursday evening.

B&B Guns and Ammo in Abilene sells a very rigid 30 mm scope mount for $65. I can’t remember the brand, but I’ll check it when I get back to town tomorrow. It’s tall enough for my NightForce to clear on my AR10.

I vote to get a proper mount too but do what you gotta do.

My argument is what is a wasted trip to the range (fees, ammo, gas, time) going to cost you? Is it worth the gamble?

As long as you loctite the screws down are not going to take it off and put it back on you should be good to go.
