From what I have read he didn't go public. He sent a letter to 3 Admirals and, IIRC, 7 Captains. Somebody leaked it

This. It seems that his crime was going above the head of his “superiors” who apparently didn’t do squat to help the crew out. Whoever leaked the letter should be burned however.

Guessing that someone didnt want it known that in the middle of a pandemic they held a political circle jerk that potentially exposed a healthy crew to a virus. We can’t have that, now can we.

While I support the decision to shit can the TRs commander, flying out after the fact to bad mouth the former commander was just as bad, so all’s well that ends well in this case.
    THIS.

He should have just stomped on his dick in DC instead. The first thing you learn as a leader is bullshit never goes down. PEROID. It rarely ever goes out of the chain either. You never badmouth your people in front of their peers or their subordinates nor do you let that kinda shit happen in your presence involving people below you. No matter how much you agree.

    Destroys moral and creates malcontents.

He failed to submit it through secured channels as required. Thus he is as responsible as the leaker.

He could have submitted his resignation if he felt so strongly.

Besides, the whole virus thing is way overblown.

A message that relates to operational readiness is, by DoD regulation, to be transmitted on classified systems.

However the letter made its way to an unclassified environment is, ultimately, the responsibility of the author.

One does not just flip a switch on a computer to go back and forth from unclassified to classified. They are completely separate, well marked boxes.

His direct superior was in the next compartment on board the ship. Ya he broke the chain, probably without full knowledge of what his superiors were doing in response, but still broke the chain and knew better. This is a deployed Aircraft Carrier, you dont just evacuate it instantly he should have understood that, even in peace time.

Plenty of auto dick stomping going on here. He might get his job back for now but his career might have plateaued unless hes got friends.
