Ran into some one at a gun shop that is getting into the AR platform

He bought a well-used AR 15 pistol and is planning to do a rebuild

One of the parts he needed was a flash hider, so he bought a A2 flash hider a couple a weeks ago at a gun show, but due to him being new to the ar, he found out it was designed for a 300blk barrel

The threads are correct, just has a 30 cal. hole

He needs to know if he can still use the flash hider on a 556 barrel

    Yep.
    5.56 goes into 7.65.
    7.65 don't go into 5.56.

Is he sure the threads are correct?

I mention that primarily because 5.56 barrels are typically threaded as 1/2-28 TPI, and 300BO barrels are typically theeaded as 5/8-24 TPI (though there are adapters available)...

He said the barrel was 1/2-28 and the hider went on, tight

When I get in touch with him I will let him know to verifie the threads on the flash hider

If that's the case, the flash hider is likely intended for a 9mm PCC as opposed to a 300BO (9mm is usually threaded as 1/2-28 also, or 13.5LH for some of the euro-guns...)

Just talked to him on the phone and he did a retry and noticed the hider went on fairly tight, but it did wiggle, so it's not going to work

If it wiggled broadly on the threads themselves, then that's a bit interesting, as it's either a matching thread pattern or it isn't (assuming no stripped threads).

If it just still had some wiggle/play when screwed all the way on (e.g. didn't fully bottom-out to the shoulder on barrel), I'd ask if he has a crush-washer for it (should have either one of those or some shims), may just be that...Note that crush-washers are not reusable.

It has enough wiggle to effect the round coming out

The threads on the barrel are fine/not stripped

He's going to start looking for a 556 A2 hider
