JeezOman I just got the electric bill for a month of running the a/c in the shed. $120 higher than last month. That's running it at ~70 but now we're at 74 and moving to 76. It seems like many days I don't even make it out to the shed; I cast in the garage the other day but when I get back to PC it'll be in the shed with the a/c blowing cold!

In general, are window units expensive to run?

my bet is it's gonna run the gamut, from $30 or so a month all the way up to a few $100...

In my case, I run a room ac unit, and in the summer it costs about $50 a month... wife says, quite often, "It's horribly expensive," while looking for a pair of scissors to open her latest amazon arrival...

I run mine at 80 degrees 24/7, then drop it to 70 whenever I go in there to work.

Insulation, volume, and amp draw (or unit efficiency) are the 3 primary determinants of how much it will cost.

I live in an older, 60-70 year old, 800 sq ft house with not so good insulation and plenty of draft. I run a window ac/supplemental heat unit in the area up front, and an older window ac in bedroom. Both 110/120V. Set at about 75+- in bedroom and 75+- up front. My electric bill normally doesn't get much over $125 max all Summer. Granted, I've also got various fans for circulation too. But in a smallish shop area, just a single window unit would probably do the trick.

My late friend Steve came over and helped me empty out the second bedroom. That's where I set up the reloading gear. It's centrally heated with air conditioning. I just had a complete high efficiency AC unit installed in the house. 1000 square feet with 3 tons of AC works great!

There is a ceiling fan and sound system, too. I sit in an oversized leather office chair and light is good. The room has a ceramic tile floor, so spills are easy to clean up.

Reloading is a hobby in itself and there's no point in putting up with unpleasant conditions.

The people who built the house made an extra pantry for long term food storage. Decided to make it my gun room so that I’m in the house A/C and I can shut the door and not bother anyone.

I reload in my garage when weather permits Only! I do have a heater for the two weeks per year and two pedestal fans for the Hell days.

When the kids moved out I made the smallest room a man cave. Guitars, guns, loading bench, and an office in the corner. Nice and cool in the summer, plus a closet to store my stuff out of sight.

I wished. Reloading in the garage. Had a portable unit one summer but it burnt out. Now I just take the summer months off from reloading and do more in the cooler months. San Antonio heat is brutal.

So here we are in another Texas summer. How do you deal with the heat in your reloading operation? Do you perform some tasks, like hand priming, inside the house? Got a/c in your workshop? Or just deal with the heat and reload in your underwear?
I have a garage roll around a/c and a dehydrator next to the bench...

Finally able to reload in the garage tonight without sweat dripping on my press.

One of the best days of my life was the day I built my new reloading bench in the man cave inside the house. Last of the kids moved out, and within a week I had that room converted to a man cave/reloading room/office.

The cool air in the summer, and warm air in the winter. After over 20 years of reloading in the garage, I feel like I won the lottery.
