Today we had a new record.
90 crows on the ground. Last best day was 68 if I recall correctly.
We were three shooters today instead of the usual two.

So you're poaching? I don't quite understand why you're shooting ravens (crows.) Are they a pest species? Forgive my ignorance, I just think if you kill something it should be to eat or to protect your property (animals.)

“Sing a song of sixpence, a pocketful of rye, four and 20 blackbirds baked in a pie.”

I think you’re six birds short of the fourth pie.

I'm not having a problem, I'm trying to understand the reasoning. Killing has to serve a purpose, even if it's an animal, otherwise it's psychopathic murder.

For deer, elk, quail, pheasant etc it's meat

For hogs, coyotes, bobcats, it's to protect land/livestock

Again, no problems, just trying to understand the reasoning behind shooting just short of 100 crows/ravens.

Pest control. Crow / Raven / Blackbirds (I'm not sure which) make a F***ing mess of parking lot vehicles in the Huntsville area; no doubt other areas too. I have streams of their doo down the side of car even as I type.

My guess is the were depredating. Or had just finished depredating. Or possibly were highly suspect of depredating at some point in the future.

Back in the 60s the crows where devastating corn crops In south Texas.
Where do the crows roost when they are at a large corn field ?
On the barbed wire fence, thousands of them.

Solution for neighboring farm was to sacrifice his fence by wiring explosives on fence line, then at the appropriate time, boom.

    No more crows.

See simple explanation. They cause problems to crops and other species. BTW crows and ravens are so similar people don't know the difference.

So my next question is how devastating are crows to farms?

Was gonna say pest control. Almost got a few myself in New Mexico that waited too long on deer parts in the middle of I40.
