I should have just ordered the damn P80 I wanted when I was first thinking about it. Now, after looking at Glocks and all the options for slides and barrels, the cheap skate in me is trying to justify spending the same (if not more) on an 80% as a new Glock. I do like the idea of having some time invested in my guns. Even though the AR’s I have built/assembled aren’t the fanciest or most expensive, I have pride knowing I took the time to assemble them and I know the guns inside and out. I’m sure I’ll end up ordering a P80 frame and jig kit in the next week, but it sure won’t be to save money!

People really overthink this. I just use the drill press and it works perfectly, everything is as square as necessary. The official instructions suggest not to use a drill press because it makes too easy to drill into the jig, while you can feel where jig directs a hand drill.

You can buy a used Glock much cheaper than building an 80% gun. You may be able to buy a new Glock cheaper, just depends on your build options. But, it just feels "wrong" to build one. I have built 3 of them and all 3 work perfectly.
I have been disassembling and reassembling Glocks for several years so I was no stranger to the innards of the gun.

Went ahead and ordered the frame kit. I originally was gonna go with the 19, but after looking at Glocks, decided on the 17. Got it in FDE. Now I gotta find what slide and barrel I want, and get the frame parts kit and slide parts kit. Place I ordered from was out of the frame parts kit.
**edit-I was wrong about Midway being out of the frame parts kit (I looked at so many sites I forgot which was which) so I went back and ordered it also. Feels kind of “bad” having this shipped right to the house!

Wish me luck! I ordered the slide and barrel, with the slide parts kit and Glock OEM sights, last night, so by this time next week I should have all the parts delivered, and I’ll be ready to do some “building”. Been watching Marine Gun Builders channel on YouTube. That dude doesn’t mess around! A lot of great tips for sure. I really hope I don’t get sucked into this Polymer 80 rabbit hole like I did the AR’s. But with the prices on AR parts, it’s probably a pretty good investment to have a few extra sets lying around for when they aren’t so cheap!

Well, everything went ok with the frame. Removed the tabs, sanded and smoothed everything out, and. installed the lower parts. Got the slide and barrel today, and it was hell getting the slide to go on. I re polished the rails, made sure all the holes in my jig lined up and the rails are in the right position, oiled it up real good, and it is still tighter than dick skin! Almost sounds like the slide is grinding on the rails. And forget racking it and it going back into battery, not even close to being able to do that. Looks like I’m gonna have to take it apart and figure out where I went wrong! Anyone have an idea where to start? Definitely just gonna buy a Glock next time!

The other day I got my and my wife's 19's mixed up and could not get the upper assembly back on the frame. Turns out gen 5 and gen 4 don't mix.

You get what I'm getting it, I'm sure...

I think my rails may be bowed a little and not sitting flat. They were tight going in, so I’m just gonna polish everything up a little more and make sure they are sitting level. I noticed the ejector is almost hitting the back plate when I put the slide on so something is not exactly right.

Take the barrel and recoil spring out of the slide and see of the slide goes on freely.

I just watched a video of a guy troubleshooting his and saw that. Had to slap myself for not thinking if it!
