I'm still trying to discern the added benefit of our new "Constitutional Carry" law. I'm certainly not a legal scholar, but my initial reaction to this bill is that it is quite "watered down".

How does this law affect Texas' concealed-/open-carry laws? Can one still make application for a carry permit after this so-called constitutional-carry legislation goes into effect? What has been gained? As far as carrying a handgun, what can an "unlicensed person" do now w/ re: to legally carrying a handgun that they couldn't do under our carry permit laws?

I've spoken w/ an individual who has read its complete text and expressed the opinion that this law is constitutional-carry in name only, and that except for those who possess a carry-permit, we may be worse off than before.

I'll be very interested in watching how all this plays out w/ law-enforcement & in the various state courts.

“It also ensures that any firearm suppressor manufactured in Texas, and that remains in Texas, will not be subject to federal law or federal regulation.”

I am very curious to see if there will be any new or existing manufacturers willing to dip their toe in the water and put this one to the test. I would love to see quality suppressors being made by Texans for Texans. And no, I’m not talking about cut down oil filters or some such thing built by some dude in his garage, I’m talking about well engineered/well manufactured products. Just not sure any company will take that plunge due to the potential repercussions the Federal gov’t could inflict on their business in retaliation.

I'm kind of like you and think that it is pretty unlikely that anyone will be willing to invest lots of money in doing this because it does seem to be at risk of being successful under the current administration and congressional bias.

Maybe if the republicans ever get firm control of POTUS, senate or house it might be something that someone is will to venture into. I think it was pretty much more of a political statement by Texas republicans than anything.

While the FBI or ATF (or as Biden calls them, the AFT) doesn't have the manpower resources available to go after every single, lowly individual making an occasional "oil filter" suppressor in his garage, they most certainly would expend the resources necessary to go after a large manufacturer.

Uncle Sam takes his tax money 'Account Receivables' very serious. As long as the National Firearm Act continues to require payment of a $200 Tax Stamp, there's not likely to be a viable large scale business model that won't ultimately get the ATF or FBI Field Office's attention.

One of two things would have to happen IMO for this law to have any authority.

One, the ATF has suppressors removed from the list of NFA items and no longer requires them to be registered and paying a tax stamp. I sure ain't gonna hold my breath waiting on that to happen any time soon!

Two, the state of Texas would have to something rather drastic to enforce this law against federal agents coming into Texas to arrest, or attempt to prosecute a Texas resident exercising their rights under this law. Short of Texas seceding the Union, and arresting any and all federal agents crossing the state border into Texas, the new law just doesn't have any authority.

In short, the new law is more a symbolic gesture and a feel good law about Texas is about it IMO.

    YMMV.

I am so very proud of Texas and the Texans!!! All Texans should be proud of their state.
Congratulations on the pro-freedom and pro-private property laws!!!
Even if they are not perfect (no gun law is, there are communist claws everywhere) this is still a move in the right direction. If you compare with the descent into the abyss of the evercursed s__t hole WA, you will see how much better they are!
Keep on rocking Texas! I cannot wait for the years necessary for me to retire, so I can come down there.

If you wonder why the laws are related to private property (aka if I am drunk, which I am not), remember this fight is not about the bill of rights.
The first is already gone; if you do not believe me, try to exercise it.
It is not about the second, the fourth, the fifth, the sixth, the seventh, or the eighth. The elimination of those, which is already marching across the country is just the means to ease the confiscation of private property, the ultimate and pure goal of the Marxist party.
Every socialist/Marxist/Leninist regime confiscated guns, burnt and banned books, and had brownshirts to get to the point where they can begin building concentration camps.
For that reason, states with a lone star burning bright and shining light into the falling darkness are so important!

Are you drunk, or on drugs?

You say we have no 1st Amendment rights? Yet here you are spouting off on gun forum, no less about how our rights are gone and such.

You don’t need a license to carry a handgun.

I didn’t think that basic premise was so complicated.
