Trying to play around with a couple 223s. One is a CZ 527 (1:9) and the other is a 18" AR that I built (1:8). With a few 68 grn that I have loaded, I have not found a rifle that likes them. Going to play around with some CFE223 and Varget. Was using 748 powder. Trying to reach out to 500 yards. I have no problem with the 18" gun and 55 grn FMJ to hit steel at 4-500 yards..

I cooked up several loads using the same bullets and TAC powder and couldn't maintain 1 MOA to save my life. My 1:8 rifles have done much better with 60-65gr bullets. Pushing them out past 400 I see why you would want the heavies but I think you're going to need SMKs to get better performance in that weight.

I got a good price on the Hornady's a few years ago but wish I had spent the extra pennies on Sierra's.

The factory loads of SMK and Hornady Match shoot great out of my rifles.
I can't replicate that with any powder and primer combo I've imagined.
I gave up. Now I use Sierra Game Kings for anything over 300 yds in my .223 loads.

Harsh reality is that those bullets might not like that gun no matter the powder, primer and/or brass!

Varget in 223 with heavier bullets is great. It doesn't meter well in a progressive press. Imr8208xbr is solid for running on a progressive.

I second hornady match. Tight groups. For a 1:8 64-68 grain worked well in my ar’s.
