.22 interchangeable?

Pretty basic question, I'm new to rimfire, and was just wondering are .22 LR, L, S, MAG, and WMR interchangeable?

LR, L, and S can all be shot from a LR gun.

22LR, L and S are good to go on most rimfire lever, single and bolt actions. Not in semi autos.


.22 Magnum or also called Winchester Magnum Rifle are too long for the other actions.

WMR is a whole nother animal, All others are safe to interchange but may not all cycle. most new .22s are made for .22LR, .22 long is pretty much phased out. .22 shorts are safe to shoot in any .22 firearm except magnum but you will not cycle in semi autos and may not agree with some bolt action repeaters depending on if they are fed by box or tube magazine. I don't know of any box rifle or pistol mags that will reliably feed .22 short. Tube feed bolt actions should feed both.
