April 10th is right around the corner and that's our time for the spring Family Reunion. For those who haven't been in a while, we're using Texas Star Shooting Range. I've been in contact with Anthony (manager) and they're looking forward to our Reunion. I can't thank them enough for how much they've opened this range up for us.

This thread is for general chatter.

    Location:
    Texas Star Shooting Range
    860 Co Rd 3384, Kempner, TX 76539
    http://www.texasstarshootingrange.com/
    Location via Google

    Directions from Copperas Cove:
⦁ Take 190 to East Ave D (Turn right at the McDonalds/CVS)
⦁ Follow East Ave D to North 1st Street and take a right at the Ace Hardware, crossing the railroad tracks
⦁ Go to the first light and take a left at the Dairy Queen on to West Ave B
⦁ Follow West Ave B about 7 min (4.3 mi)
⦁ Veer left on Oak Springs Road (there should be a white sign with a yellow star and TSSR on the star) (Watch your speed, stay in your lane. It gets very tight and there's a lot of drivers who fly around the blind corners)
⦁ Follow Oak Springs Road, following the TSSR signs at each intersection
⦁ Turn on Joes Way, again following the TSSR sign / Joes way will eventually come to a fork in the road. The fastest way is to veer to the right, but the road just loops around to itself, so you can't really mess it up. Joes Way will lead you right to the range - can't miss it.
This trip is Honda Civic friendly. Motorcycles not recommended due to loose gravel on one small section.

    Amenities:

    - There is an area for people to camp. Call ahead to verify.
    - Pizza is not normally delivered to this range.
    - The berm is at NRA standards. It's wide/strong enough to drive a bulldozer on top of and it's 20 ft tall. You'll notice the dirt behind the targets is different from the main berm itself. the dirt behind the targets is rock free to help prevent ricochets. Also, they are constantly maintaining the berm so we should have zero issues with it.
    - TSSR is insured and has a document stating so at the front desk.
    - TSSR has a general first aid kit on-site as well as a bullet wound kit. On top of that, the owner and manager are both formally trained in treating bullet wounds. As an absolute worst case scenario, there is an area designated for a medical airlift and the range has a number directly for the local airlift.
    - They have two restrooms.
    - There is an archery area so feel free to bring out your crossbows.
    - The skeet area uses a variable range thrower. You won't know where the clay is going until it's already out. Think you're good?? Step on up!
    - Class III is allowed, within the constraints above - bring your paperwork, have it with you. LEOs do frequent this range.
    - The range accepts cash or plastic. There are snacks, ammo, targets, and holsters for sale in the main lobby.
    - Pot luck lunch and more!

Cost for all this goodness: $10 - TGT Discount. Normal fee is $15. Please let the front desk know you're with TGT to receive discount. If you have questions pertaining to rules, or how to get there then go ahead and send it. If you're coming, please let us know in the attendance thread along with any others you plan on hauling in. The more people, the better!

Thanks for the info. Since I've never been there I want to better understand the rules and the bays and how they're related. Can you advise - shooting shotguns straight up is fine - but shot lower than Buck is required? I have a couple that have no business on the trap side, but are fun as heck to shoot at targets down range. And are we shooting at paper on the shotgun lane?

As a FNG, I have never been to one of these reunions and it would be interesting to meet fellow TGT-ers.
What do y'all normally do at the range and at what times? Is there some kind of a program laid out or y'all just decide when you get there? What times are the gates open to attendees?

It’s fairly do as you wish. There is a pot luck lunch we usually start eating around noon. (we’ll kick that thread off shortly).

There are usually some side matches, buying/selling/trading, and a lot of jaw-jacking. For some, we will spend more time catching up than shooting. It’s fairly low key and there’s usually 20-25 that make it, mixed between old and new.

Bring all the guns possible and 1000s of rounds; you will never hear the end of it if you arrive unprepared.

Thank you, gentlemen, definitely will be bringing toys and ammo, that seems most logical.
How about timing? Do we show up for lunch? When is the event over, at sundown?

No set times, even lunch is ‘ish’. Weather and driving distance can be a factor. Most folks are there from about 10-3, but some open and close the place.

I'm usually an opener and closer. Just bring what you got. It's a fantastic place to not just meet people, but shoot some oddball & mainline stuff you've never shot before. The first one I went to, I brought damn near every gun I had. More lately, I just bring odd stuff - to me anyway, fits my personality. To be honest, the thing I like the most about it is the relationships you can develop. I'm pretty antisocial in general. Some of the people I've met there have become my best friends.

Don't be embarrassed or anything. I loaded a bunch of 9mm ammo, where every 100 or so rounds had no powder in it. I was mortified with letting other people shoot it. Maybe it was great training for squib rounds. It ended up teaching me, and some others valuable lessons.

I started out bringing , and still bring more guns and ammo than I shoot. Spend more time letting others shoot them and socializing than anything. And I am usually one of if not the last to leave as well.
Pro tip. Whatever your plans are there, you will only accomplish a small portion of them. Enjoy what you do and don't agonize over what you don't. It's all about the day, not what you accomplish.

RobertC and myself are usually a few of the first to arrive. I've been there as early as 7 (and took a nap cause they weren't open) and as late as 8:30 this year. There is another guy and I always forget his name cause I'm a jerk. He arrives early too.

I guess I won't be riding the bike then! If I bring enough of my toys and ammo for everyone to shoot, I'd have to haul a trailer behind me. Better take the truck.
Hoping to meet new friendly people, have some safe fun, learn something new and go home tired.

Yes you and JRB have been early birding it the last two times. Last time I was late (8:30) because I woke up late. Look forward to this time =)
I’ll probably be late this time just because I mentioned it.
Y'all are triggering my 'punctuality OCD'... I've a 2 hour drive just to get there and daggumit I can't be late to anything...

I'll definitely be packing the vehicle the night before!
