I think it's less about going to D.C. and more about making our states and communities ready to keep D.C. out of them....

Such a large portion of our paycheck goes to the Federal Gov in the form of income tax, who then turns around and returns significant funds to the Local government, directly to the departments they wish to subsidize.

The Schools rely on Federal funding, the Police rely on Federal funding, Fire dept depends on Federal funding, Roads/Highways rely on Federal subsidies, Emergency Management relies on Fed funds, Hospitals rely on Federal funding, etc. This system of subsidies allows the Federal Government to dictate, through allocations how our local communities are run. This occurs at the: State level, the County level and the Municipal level. Every single Agency is beholden to the Federal government for a significant portion of funding and subject to Federal mandates, depriving citizens the ability to determine where dollars get spent and what happens in their communities.

This arrangement of "trickle down" financing of services at the local level means citizens have little say in the day-to-day operations. Elections mean little as the next elected official will inherit the same system and have to bow to the source of funding.
