I carry a 1911 Govt in an OWB hoster. The grip on the side next to me had a bit of oxidation under the grip. I cleaned it and oiled it. Would putting a light coat of grease under the grip help deter oxidation? (I also sometimes carry a single stack 9mm in an in waist band holster as well).

GI means just blued? What brand pistol and how well is it blued? What kind of grips?

Grease might work. Extra bluing might work. If you're using aluminum grips, changing grips might work.

    Boeshield

That stuff is dangerous. I used it to lube the doors in my home 10 years ago. Suddenly I had to start putting a door stop in front of 3 doors to keep them open. Two years ago I finally got tired of the door stops and bought some springs that you can install on the hinges to help keep the door open if it's hung out of balance and tries to partially close on it's own. They worked for two doors (but one still closes a few inches). The third door I pulled a pin from the hinge, placed it over a rock and hit it with a hammer (making it slightly crooked). Now that door will remain open on it's own too.

None of these doors had any problems staying open on their own before I tried the Boeshield.

I appreciate your help. I am fond of 1911s as I carried one in combat and carried it for quite a few years. You can ridicule the 1911 if you wish as I am pretty sure I know how our were GIVEN the right to free speech.

Its an American Classic with blued frame/slide, etc. Grips are Veritas/Aequitas white plastic (or similar, not sure). This is not my pistol but the grips are the same:

Just wipe it down with some Breakfree CLP periodically. That stuff is very rust preventative. Several years ago on another forum, someone did a test with all the various lubes on metal, and left it outside and in the rain for a long time to see what would happen.

Sorry I couldn’t resist. I didn’t mean to upset you.

Not upset, just don't feel I need the "pussy" thing used when I post a legit question. Thanks for getting back, there is no problem.

Other than Amazon, where is this product sold? I live in the boonies and closest store that might sell the stuff is a True Value.

Ok. I just thought we would both laugh at the meme than someone would give you an actual answer

since true value doesn’t list Breakfree CLP (maybe a manager might be able to order you up some).

so, i take it there are no gun shops or sporting goods stores nearby?

a couple drops of 30 weight will prolly do for the time being.

    Timely thread..........

This is a Kimber I am cleaning for a customer.......pretty Kimber until you take it apart. It has never been cleaned properly and is a mess inside......he kept the outside wiped down, but that is it........in the second photo, click on it to expand it , you can see corrosion on the top of the rail (red circle)........

Clean them folks....not just wipe them down.........

While I agree on cleaning, there could be more going on there on the slide than just corrosion.
