The cost of an M-17 is lower than that for a good 1911, so if money is an issue (when is money NOT an issue?), then the M-17 is a good choice. Personally, I like the M-18 better, but it's the same price. As far as that's concerned, you don't need to get either one of the military versions and instead find the P320 with the combination of features that you like. You can even customize it with a Wilson Combat frame and/or a holographic sight.

Now LONG TERM, you really will enjoy having a good, solid 1911. There's nothing quite like it and it's worth the investment.

I find that I will often take the P320 in .45 ACP to the range because it's so easy to clean.

So the answer is "Both, but follow your priorities in which you buy first."

What are leaning towards or gotten? I like both and if you can only get one, I would go modern handgun. You’ll get a 1911 later

    Should I buy a 1911 .45 or sig m17 9mm?
I just sold a tricked out SIG 320 VTAC..and kept a Kimber Pro covert Carry custom shop ,45 1911
Friend it is like blondes or redheads.. either is an excellent choice.
I am 72 and the weight /size for comfortable carry came down on the Kimber side..either will obliterate the x ring at 25 feet and score tens at 50 with my old eyes and slightly less than "iron" stance.
the 9 is cheaper to shoot...and is new and sparkerly the 1911 ,45 is over 100years of polished class-

Choose your weapon! STANDBY....TARGETS! satisfaction and enjoyment with either lady!
