I wanted to ask yalls opinion on scopes for a 10/22. I recently picked up a 10/22 from the ruger custom shop. My first thought was to put a 3x9x40 that I have laying around. Iooked through a vortex 1x4x24 that I liked also. What would yall put on a .22

I think it matters what the 10/22 is going to be used for. A small critter gitter, I'd probably go a 1 to 4 power, or maybe a 2 to 7 power scope. If for target shooting, maybe a 3 to 9 power. For just fun backyard plinking, maybe even consider a red dot optic as am option.

If you’re just driving tacks at a set distance, a fixed power optic somewhere in the 4x - 8x magnification range.

If you’re planning on shooting various distances or really serious about really tight groups, 12x-42x is a good variable power range.

I spent most of last year shooting precision rimfire with a 16x-24x Vortex FFP. Some folks thought it a bit much, but I appreciated the versatility out to 200 yds.

Thats where my 3x9 is coming from. Last year I got a bushnell forge 3x15x50 ffp and loved it. I've ordered an Arken scope with a ffp, just waiting for it to come in. Gonna do some swapping around when it does.

I always liked the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire with the BDC reticle. Ive got a couple in 3-9x (10/22) and one in 4-12x (CZ 455). Can't complain with any of them and they were decently priced when on sale. Not sure if they still make them since Nikon was getting out of the scope business.

    ETA- they are still available

Im not that much of a fan of the 1022, preferring the Marlin Papoose, or the .22 unit in the AR for the rimfire rifle chores. I'd use a 2x7 variable 7/8" scope on it, tho. It's just too small and lw for a big centerfire scope to look or handle right. I'd have luminous iron sights on it and a see thru mount for the scope, to maximize the utility of the papoose, and a folding or telescoping stock for it. I'd greatly prefer a 10" barrel, Lexan forend on the Papoose with 6" of slimline suppressor. with the 45 gr Federal subsonic .22lr ammo in it.

I've got a Simmons 3-9 on my 10/22 & on my Marlin 60. Not a high dollar scope but I'm happy with them. Good enough for plinking and general farting around.
