As some of you know, my pops recently acquired a beretta neos and I have gotten the bug to do some .22 shooting. The wife(being the incredible woman she is) snagged me a s&w victory for xmas and the next thing on the list for me is a nice 10/22 build. Its my first one so some advice on parts choice is in order and I bow to the experience of the TGT patronage. I plan to run a PMACA chassis with a brownells reciever as the basic guts of the build, but i need some advice on what other parts to go with to finish it out. My main goal is going to be the highest accuracy possible without sacrificing reliability. This will be a regular shooter and something of an emergency bug out gun. Im all ears!

The fact that flamethrowers exist is proof that someone thought “I want to set those people on fire, but I’m just not close enough to get the job done”.

Yeah Im not going 1k crazy. Just got a lil cash to spend on a fun gun. Kidd is pretty much out as that stuff is crazy high. Been looking at tac-sol and green mountain as barrel options. cz bolt guns are an option as well.

I threw a fluted Tac Sol barrel in a Magpul chassis a couple years ago and I am pleased.
Stock guts for now with inexpensive glass on top. Works great for sniping squirrels out to 50 yds.
    Have fun!
ETA: It even cycles subsonic ammo while suppressed ;-)

I have loved their rifles for a long time with all of the different parts availability out there. I have always been disappointed with their magazines though. I have never found ones that are 100% reliable no matter who makes them. To me that is their one big giant downfall.

A buddy of mine put a Green Mountain barrel on his and shoots way more accurately than the stock barrel.

Pick up the LVT version of the 10/22. It is pretty darn accurate out of the box. The kids are hitting pennies at 100 yards with mine (14x scope, actually needs more magnification for that, but we manage).
Possible I got a good one, but the general consensus is they will do 1/4 inch at 50 yards.

Mine has been reliable, I only use Ruger 10 round mags (tri mag set up), and CCI SV. I cannot shoot any better than that gives me, so why spend on more expensive ammo.
    YMMV

If you are just looking to make your gun a lot more accurate and not minute of gnat’s ass, then spend $200ish on a VQ or Kidd trigger.

ALL of the Ruger triggers suck.

Yeah.....I guess I should have stated that I did put a Kidd trigger on it, and it made a world of difference.
The LVT barrel is plenty good, but the Ruger triggers absolutely need some work.

If by “work” you mean stick in a bag of rocks and drop in a deep lake, then yes, the Ruger factory triggers need work. ;)

OP, here is my “minute of gnat’s ass” 10/22 build.

only thing left on it from Ruger is the receiver and magazines.
Kidd barrel, internals. VQ trigger and Revolution stock.

Volquartsen and Kidd is the route I went barrel and bolt and a few other things. The BX trigger is a good trigger and won't break the bank, but if you want to spend 3 - 4 times more money you easily can.

Although I spent a lot more than I had meant (over $1,000) I could easily double that with more upgrades. Stocks are more a personal choice, Boyd makes many different styles, but then there are a hundred other manufacturers.

Big difference between “good” and “ amazing” when it comes to triggers.

    If you like 50 yard groups of 5 that look like this on average;

then “good” is probably not going to do it for you.;)

You fellas are doing a good job of talking me out of a build.

I was trying to keep his budget down, and for the price, it's hard to beat the BX trigger.
The trigger is in my opinion the biggest part of getting the most accuracy out of a 10/22. If you spend hundreds on the barrel, bolt, stock etc and leave a mediocre at best trigger in it, you will be disappointed at a minimum.

Put the best trigger out there on a stock 10/22, and you will see close to cloverleaf groups. Build all of the other stuff up after that.

Buy a stock 10/22 in whatever flavor you want. Put in a great trigger, mount a scope, and shoot rabbits in the eye at 50yards. Upgrade the rest as the mood hits you.

Hell, buy a used 10/22. It is very difficult to wear them out( although I did wear out a barrel on one. Took 20+ years and over 300,000 rounds

Have you ever used the BX Trigger? Now I'm not going to say it's the best, but compared to the stock trigger, it's hardly mediocre.

If you are out to keep your budget under $1,000, I wouldn't suggest spending about a 1/3 of that on a trigger.

I have. I stand by mediocre. I have shot one with the old school metal triggers with a polish job that was done by Brimstone that was worlds better than the BX, but not nearly as good as the Volquartsen or Kidd.

I own and shoot A LOT of 10/22.;)
