Could be a number of factors. Remember there were a number of changes made to the M16 and it's ammo before they ever arrived in Vietnam to the soldiers. The powers that be at the time had such blind faith in the M16 that they sent them over to Vietnam without any cleaning kits!

    Axxe55,

HAD the ammo supplied to the GIs in RVN been "in spec", the Army MIGHT have gotten away with NOT cleaning the M16 for a considerable period of time.
BUT, as the "supplied ammo" was NOT within specifications, the M16 became known as "the JAM-o-matic".

.303 & .308 are ballistically similar. The .303 can take a heavier bullet, but it still is slightly below .30-06 performance.

I was comparing the .303 to the .455. I'd rather have the rifle than the slow Webley round. Those Webleys were almost as ineffective as those old 1911's.....

I love shooting this rifle, if I can see it, I can shoot it.

    Whistler,

Fwiw, the WT buck with the BIGGEST rack that I've ever seen (OVER FORTY POINTS & OVER 18" wide ) was taken by a 16YO boy, whose grandad bought the Enfield .303 Mark1* rifle for him for 9.95 at Gibson's Discount Center in Longview, TX in 1966.

The one in that picture was picked from a barrel at Western Auto for $30

ETA: circa 1962 or at least to the best recollection of my mother who purchased it for my dad as a Father's Day gift. I've owned it for the last 20-25 years

    Whistler,

YEP. I remember when I was in college that you could hardly give away a SMLE, unless it looked nearly NEW.

Also, when Ken C & I owned a small security company in the 1960s, I bought (as I had few bucks to get the doors open) 15 Webley .38S&W caliber revolvers with canvas holsters, in GREAT shape, for 8.oo each plus tax.

NOTE: In over 6 years, NONE of us ever drew a handgun in anger, though we caught & turned over to the SD any number of thieves, night prowlers, an escapee from a nearby county jail (for DUID felony) & more than a few poachers, that were held for the TPWD game wardens..
(Most of our employees ended up bringing their own shotgun to carry at work.)

Those days of "screaming bargains" for surplus firearms are GONE forever.

As our main business was patrolling oilfields, we bought baseball caps, blue denim work shirts & blue jeans for "uniforms".
(As my partner, Ken, was a "half-fast cowboy", he got us older/calm geldings from a man, who bought horses for slaughter, for the jobs that were best done astride. - He got us some really GOOD horses from Mr. Moles, too. "by the pound")

    Lipps,

As far as I can find out, the "1824 flag" NEVER flew at the Alamo.

Instead, the Mexican tri-color with TWO 6-ponted stars in the white section for TEXAS & COAHUILA flew there.
(There are also a report that a SOLID WHITE silk flag, made from an underskirt of a lady's wedding gown, with a central BLUE painted star flew over the fortress, according to COL Bowie's slave "Jim".)

So I take it you’re going to the Tulsa Rally?
I saw two references to "4th of July" BLM marches country wide. One was on FOX. and I can't find either now. I wonder if they were pulled. Should we be concerned about a concerted attempt at major US symbols of unity over the 4th? Maybe this should be a new thread.

Fourth of July has already been cancelled in my neck of the woods.

    toddnjoyce,

Your area too the 4th OFF THE CALENDER??

    yours, satx

Seriously? The 4th of July being cancelled? Are they wanting to say it's a racist holiday now or because of some sort of concerns for security?

Weather permitting, and whether we end up with a burn ban in the county, may be the hinging factor on fireworks in our county. Last year we were on a burn ban, so no fireworks were being allowed.
