Marantz went through a lot of changes over the decades.

The original Sol Marantz equipment (tube) from the 50's and early 60's was audiophile quality. Had a power amp and pre amp, but unfortunately had to sell them in hard financial times.

Somewhere along the line (70's?) Marantz sold the name and the equipment was cheap. I think since someone has revived the Marantz name as top end again.

Interesting to see LP's coming back. Gave some LP's to a friends granddaughter (HS aged). She was thrilled to have some of the old classic rock on vinyl.

I had my Marantz system in the late 1970's. It was perfect for a young guy on a budget who wanted an impressive "looking" and loud system to show off!

The first audio system I purchased when I was in ststioned in Guam, was a Pioneer system with big old 15 inch woofers, turn table and reel to reel tape player. Awesome sounding. I remember most of the things you talked about old computers I repaired the 465 L SAC computer old transistor puter had drum memories, Tapes, cards and one of the planes used mylar tape for navigation. The first computer I programmed was an IBM system 3 that you programmed with punch cards. Hell I feel old.
The old Pioneer gear could be pretty good.

Reel to reel was great for its time.

I doggedly converted all my vinyl to mp3, so I'd quit wearing out the records. About the time I was done, You Tube came along & now, virtually everything I have is available on the internet.
I found some new needles for my Shure and Pickering cartridges to get my old Pioneer PL15D table going again. (with a new belt)

I have an old 1997 Sony VAIO Pentium I 233 computer that came setup for Audio/Video recording/editing so I have been copying my mom's old records as well as some of my obscure LPs that were never on CD or anywhere else I could find.

The turntable into the Sony VAIO saves as WAV and then I convert to MP3.
Lots of 'pops & scratches' but records from the 50s to the 70s will do that.

I still have some of my old school audio gear, but not much. I think the only 'classic' things left are a couple Carver amplifiers (M-4.0t and AV-64).

You'd rather have a person who doesn't share your values period point blank? How is libertarian "Dem lite"? If anything it's "Republite". freedom is freedom it applies to all. Period. It's sure better than the basic Republican or Democrat Tennants imho

When it comes to what I posted, she is firmly entrenched with the Democrat party in her line of thinking. I do not wish to further enable the Marxist based ideology of race theory with my vote.

Can you describe what you mean by that? I would not declare myself a Marxist by any means, but I do have to agree with what she said. It's not enough to be passively not rasist. We are all the same. Skin tone makes no lick of difference. But if I'm quiet in the face of intolerance and racism, not being actively anti-racist, it makes me no better than the hatemongers because silence is complicity. We need to stand up for one another and all say we will not tolerate this any longer. Every man and woman is my brother and sister. We are ALL each other's keepers. Now perhaps I misunderstood but when you say you won't vote for a Marxist... You're defining her off a single point in her ideology that crosses in part with Marxism, but is not Marxist. You may disagree with everything in an ideology but a broken clock will still be correct twice a day and one single agreement with an opposing side does not make you the same as them.

Here is my problem with the anti-racist movement summed up.

    EcpxnGaVAAAE8x_.jpg

Critical race theory, the anti-racism movement and Marxism are inexorably linked together.

Jorgensen is using the exact same language as those of the leftist and anti-capitalism movements. I agree with many parts of the LP platform especially in terms of government sponsored violence against citizens.

I have no problem with those that call out racism and have done so myself on this very forum. But I have no interest in joining a movement or platform rooted in foundational beliefs diametrically opposed to my own. I cannot support a presidential candidate that embraces the same.

    A related article:

    https://www.heritage.org/civil-soci...cal-race-theory-poisons-our-discussion-racism

I live in a large East Coast city, so it’s no surprise that many of my friends lean left and are social progressives. What was surprising is that my peers, including and especially those who are relatively apolitical, use the leftist paradigms of critical race theory to share their ideas about racism.

They don’t understand the intellectual roots of that language and think that it’s the only way to talk about racism. As such, questioning their ideas amounts to tacit support of racism and makes you a racist.

That notion reflects the true nature of all leftist ideology by being ultimately authoritarian in nature. You either agree with the left’s worldview or you are an enemy of all that is good.

The quote above is exactly what I'm alluding to. And it's anti-libertarian in nature because it denies the agency of the individual with it's embrace of authoritarian group think.

That is why I'm against the anti-racism movement.
