Because one is smart enough to not carry a 1911? :D
Ouch...that stings. This "one" carries a 1911 in .45 because it's intrinsically safe in C-1, points as naturally as a scolding nun's index finger, and has a trigger press that turns that fat, slow bullet into a fat, slow laser beam at 20 yards.

    Dallas Texas or so
If you carry a 1911 with the hammer down and not cocked and locked, there is a better way.

    1. Take the magazine out and clear the chamber.

    2. Take all the cartridges except one from the magazine and put the magazine in your pocket.

    3. Change your screen name to Barney.

Easier to change mags to a good one than to a new slide to a non exploded one

Carrying 10 mags to fire 10 rounds sounds a bit excessive. Of course, buying $1,000 worth of magazines to find the "good one" and ensuring the extractor has been anointed by the magic oils of the 1911 Nymphs and infused with the spirit of J.M.B. is completely normal for firearms ownership. :D

I carry a 1911 (.45) most every day, cocked and locked (condition 1). Meaning 8 rounds in the magazine and 1 in the chamber (defensive rounds). Also carry another full mag.
