I'm sure they are, but probably not compared to a modern V8. As great as modern turbo engines are, there is no replacement for displacement.

Yeah the knock on turbo motors is low-speed throttle response/power delivery, which can be hard for technical off-roading.

NA engines are generally very linear in their power delivery, with a smoothly rising torque curve.

Small, boosted engines tend o have an abruptly rising torque curve. They lack off-boost torque. So you can often get more power than you wanted once boost spools-up.

Despite these things, I'm still considering it.
Not surprising .. You love ugly cars :P

That was definitely an issue for quite some time, but times have changed. A properly sized turbo, much better wheel design (both turbine and compressor), direct injection, and better computer controls means you can even tell the motors are turbocharged anymore. They really do drive like much larger displacement naturally aspirated motors.

 I like unique cars, which this Bronco isn't going to be. There will be a million of them.

You can't say this isn't sexy, tho...

This is where the slushbox will have an advantage. The torque converter will keep the engine loaded and the turbo will be pushing peak torque at like 1800rpm. It's going to have low speed cruise control too, so crawling will be effortless.

The whole appeal of the Bronco to me is that it's a brand new body on frame SUV with a manual, tho...

Agreed. I'm not saying they shouldn't have released a mom wagon grocery getter, I'm saying they shouldn't have called it a Blazer.

Aye, they should come out with a retake on the venerable S10 or S15 Blazer - I had the S15 GMC Jimmy and it was like a go-kart. Mine had 210+ k on it when I got it, so I had to do some work like new distributor, crank sensor, etc but it was overall a great little rig.

No V8 = no thanks. Looks to futuristic too.

I always wonder if one of these truck companies will one day just make a classic lineup with their squarebody trucks from the past.
I think they did a good job giving some styling nods to the original.

Honestly the Bronco isn't bad at all, especially in today's vehicle climate. I could do without all the screens everywhere though, but auto manufacturers must be hearing that people want lots of dash toys.

I saw yesterday that Jeep is teasing putting the 392 HEMI in the Wrangler, detuned to 450hp/450lb.ft. Only thing people were griping about is the dual mode exhaust (why, who knows).

It’s not too bad looking. Much better than Toyota did with their FJ years ago (though the motor in that was pretty impressive.) I didn’t look at specs, how does it compare to a Wrangler, size wise?
