Son in law got a little 12' X 20' building, had it spray foamed yesterday. Says he's going to stick a little portable A/C in there today, see how it does. Anybody try that stuff? It looks great, can't wait to see the difference from when we were wiring and plumbing it.

Any type of insulation is going to help. How much depends on several different factors. What type of roof in on the building? Out in the open under the blazing sun, or in a shaded area? How big of an A/C unit? How think, or what type of foam was used?

IMO, just about anything you used is going to be better than nothing.

We had it in our garage in CO and were very impressed. Like all insulation, it’s about R-Value; the science don’t change, unlike beer flu.

The closed cell spray generally offers better R value for any given thickness. It also creates a moisture barrier if applied properly.

    Mornin' y'all.
    Oooph.
Gotta spend today cleaning out the garage here at the house. That'll take all day.
Much rather be going to the range.

You're supposed to be doing that in the winter dontchaknow?

    Morning earthlings.

Spent yesterday evening reading this Lyman Cast Bullet manual that's been sitting on my bookshelf for years. Phase diagrams for Lead, Antimony and Tin are awesome.

Spray foam works good, it is based on sealing up air leaks in the structure. Air leaks kill your energy efficiency. But there is "home science" that also needs to be considered. You can mess up a house with spray foam if not constructed properly. You only need about 3.5" of open cell foam & about 2" of closed cell on exterior walls.
Roof decks get 5.5" of open cell, you can use 3.5" of closed cell.

In a home, you would decrease tonage of a/c, use instant hot, electric or gas direct vent hot water heater & furnace, eliminate attic ventilation, eliminate tech shield & condition the attic space.

The main issue with spray foam in our region, is it becomes so efficient you can cool a house down to 65deg & it only takes 1 degree to cause condensation, so now you are dealing with moisture issues in the structure. You will need to use a dehumidifier that can move 10% of the volume of air in the structure.

Theres some other house science stuff invloved, but thats the short & sweet answer.
Think of an ice chest sweating on the outside in the middle of summer.

    And he ain't posted since.
    Any idea what's going on?
    Sup Sup Suuuuuup!!!

Nothin goin on but dang life gettin in the way of things. Covid just makes crap a little bitty bit harder doesnt it? Got new help. Teaching rookies takes time and supervision. Got one for each plant location. Then they learned their plant and the boss switched em. Good idea but.....ugh, starting over.
Lead and Copper Testing due at my facililty this year and its a mid-year thing so been super busy with that. Very paperwork intensive. Testing for that just came back last week so I will finish that up now.
Worst part of recent events is, we have another plant in town, operated by a gal about my age, and she lost her husband to cancer. Tough deal for sure. For me it means when she is gone I have to deal with that plant also...and, needless to say, she has been gone a lot. Pretty much chews up my whole day, and thats if things run perfectly (and you know they dont).
Then the storm last week, we got some significant facility damages in town.

Which brings us to today, layin in bed on my lazy ass.....sick.

Been sick since saturday, sinus infection thing, dunno why it hit me now, but it did. Went to the doc yesterday, yea they did the Covid thing, damn THAT was unpleasant, we will see what results are today. Nurse, doc and everybody said "yep, its sinus infection!" when they pulled out one of the swabs and it was bloody.
Hope it comes back "neg" cause the wife and I both will have to go to Corsicana everyday to pop test. Also hope its "neg" cause I KNOW I dont have that crap.

    Anyways....Good Mornin Zoo Crew!
