If you buy a Glock, make sure it’s pretty much either stock or has minor add/replace type modifications like sights and such.

I suggest avoiding any frames that were Dremmeled, cut, or stippled.

Any Glocks that have not had any frame or slide work done will be covered by Glock for warranty repairs

Thanks for that, I was wondering about the work if it would be warrantied. But that totally makes sense no matter how nice it looked.

I am extremely disappointed that I am the first to say:

    Buy both.

On a serious note, find someone with a 1911 in .45 and shoot it (the pistol, not the owner). You may have a sudden change in your tastes in pistols.

Already starting to go deeper into the rabbit hole. I can't remember if I've ever fired a 1911. What about it makes it so good?

I'm sure there are members here who would be happy to meet you at a local range and allow you to shoot some guns.
I may have missed it. In what part of the State are you located?
    Welcome aboard.

I'm in the Austin area, more specifically Cedar Park which is more northwest

It was designed by Saint John, the Patron Saint of Modern Firearms and apostle of fire and lead. It was crafted for the human hand and intended to be made of steel and wood and shoot God's pistol caliber (the .45ACP). It is the great grand daddy of all the locked breech center fire semiautomatic handguns to come after it. Shooting a well made 1911 is almost the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Almost. :usflag:

Greetings all! Excited to be here. I've been a knife enthusiast and frequented the knife forums a lot, but never had the blessing from the Mrs. to own a gun. With things changing I'm looking to make my first firearm purchase soon but demand is so high right now. I just missed out on a PPQ .40 S&W for $300 at my local shop by 10 minutes! Done a lot of research on the VP9 so I'm hoping that will be my first purchase.

Good to be here and thinking this is going to be a major time suck on this forum! :P

Welcome to the world of firearms.

Both are very good choices. I owned the PPQ 40 and still own a VP9. If you come across a P30 .40 or 9 in LEM, those are very nice too. Very similar grips.

If you find you would rather have a hammer gun, the p30 is great choice.

    Good luck.

Welcome to TGT. You might want to consider Springfield Armory. In spite of the earlier joke about their Grip Zone, they're great guns. I've had or still have at least one of every brand and model mentioned so far, and the Springfields are my favorites. My usual carry has been a S&W snubnose in .38 Special, just recently switched to carrying my S/A XDE (for external hammer) in 9mm. They both fit my hands well.
