I have a "few" guns in my safe and a rack of ammo to feed the habit.

I put together an excel spread sheet that documents:
    brand/model/caliber
    serial number
    purchase date and where
    new/used
    purchase price
    round count
    accessories
    photos

There are tabs for inherited, pistols, revolvers, shotguns, long guns and other (black powder as an example)
Also have a tab dedicated to ammo inventory.

Decided to do this years ago for insurance purposes.

Do any of you knuckledraggers do this?

I have a list of all my firearms with model and serial numbers and such, all my C&R guns are also in my C&R book (if acquired or disposed of when I had a license), and my ammo is on a spread sheet. I have gotten to the point where I have been considering doing away with my ammo spread sheet but just thinking about it now.

I am considering doing an excel spreadsheet but I am a bit familiar with SQL so might do something a little fancier with a database.

Yes I do. For firearms, about the same as OP. Also includes an intended inheritance column. But for ammo, unfortunately, what the Army would describe as a SNAFU

I just use a mobile spreadsheet with a basic description and s/n. When I moved to Texas yes I had photos but in all reality that was only because I moved three times in a short time period to get here.

    Ammo not so much.

Excel spreadsheet as well. The ammo one is definitely not as accurate, but if anything it is an undercount. I won't add every ammo purchase to it on purpose.

Paper....Lotta whiteout, too. It was easy before I really started buying 556, 9mm, and 22. Now it's a mess. I work with SQL and DBs daily so you'd think I'd have moved on from using a note pad.

Yep, spreadsheet on the firearms and a bi-annual hand count for ammo. It's way too hard to keep up with the ammo. The hand count gets old, but it's too hard to keep up with when I just grab ammo cans to head out to the ranch and shoot.
There will be times when I buy several thousands in a week to a few hundred to none.

I just have to make sure I'm buying more than I'm shooting on the inventory sheet.

That is almost exactly how I do it as well.
