I suspect other automakers and lots of other companies are in similar situations...

If I was a board member, I would wonder why they’re donating anything given the precarious financial condition the company is in.

The Ford Foundation is, at a minimum, arms-length from FoMoCo. The money is the foundation’s money.

FoMoCo donates it to the foundation for a write-off; the foundation has full control of the funds.

That doesn’t make it dumb, though.

I think that was true in years past.

But according to the article, Henry “Sonny” Ford joined the board in 2/2019, the first family member to do so since 1976.

His sole purpose is to drive a “social justice agenda”.

I wouldn’t be surprised if most other automakers gave money to these organizations. They’re nothing if not shake-down artists.

I didn't know that Ford still sold police cars. All I see these days are Dodges.

In SoCal, it’s was all Tahoe’s and Explorers.

I’ve never seen so many Charger police cars until we moved to DFW.

The cops Ive spoken to like SUV’s because there’s just more room...especially when you consider al the equipment an officer has to lug around on his body.

Up here the Ford Explorer is the primary police vehicle - all the city PD's have switched over. Our local SO has Explorers and Chevy Caprice's plus a smattering of Tahoes. One city PD changed from Chargers to Explorers. The only police agency I know driving Chargers anymore is our State Police, and they have a bunch of Explorers too.

The CHP went with the Ford Explorer, one of the first, as a move away from the Crown Vic. They did a ton of testing and found it met what they were looking for. That drove adoption for a lot of other California departments.

Around here it seems Chevy is one of the dominant makers for patrol vehicles. Chargers are still around but not as much.

    How old are the caprices?

Yeah unfortunately Holden will no longer make cars in Australia, so most of the cool Holden models are gone. Instead, they’ll rely on imports from other GM brands like Opel.

The caprice/police special was also discontinued a few years ago. They were a tough sell because parts and service weren’t as readily available (cheap) as cars that are sold in our market.
