    Not really for LGS's.....

On Distributors websites (any of them) I click hand guns....2036 options pop up....

I click on..... in stock only.........24 options appear.......

the 24 options are Les Bear, Wilson Combat 45's all 1800.00 and up......or Volquartsen 22's 800.00 and up...... and some S&W 500's are available....and forget about any handgun ammo showing up on the distributors websites....every round is allocated.........

It's been that way for weeks now...........
That’s really interesting information. Didn’t realize it was that bad. I’m only in the market for a couple of very specific firearms so hadn’t looked around that much.

And since I never actually go and shoot, I don’t need more ammo. :banghead:

You mean you dont want to pay 50 cents a round for 9mm range ammo?

    How about 43 cents?

Ummmm....NOPE! Truth is, up until a month ago, my 9mm pistol hadn't been shot in quite some years. At least six years, maybe more. I shoot lots of 44's and 45's though. I have never gotten around to getting the reloading stuff for 9mm.

I am having thoughts about changing that though.

Just ordered 150 rounds American Eagle 230 gr 45 ACP from PSA. CPR after shipping and tax: 55¢ per round. Still waiting on my order from Bass Pro placed May 25th. 200 WWB for 37¢ per round shipped. I think they will stall until 60 days has passed so they can cancel it. Reason: Too cheap and free shipping.

I'm not really hurting for any caliber ammo, but I like to keep my inventory at a certain level when possible. It's hard to find what I call good quality target ammo, AE, Fiocchi, WWB, S&B. Seems to be plenty junk steel cased available tho. Aluminum cased Blazer is not bad, but I prefer brass.

Bass Pro/Cabelas have been playing games with a lot of people. Reddit is full of folks with canceled and orders in waiting mode for months.

And other people who are buying cases of Herters ammo and getting it in a few days. I don't get what the heck's going on over there and I have a feeling they don't either.

Crap. That was 25 cents a round not too long ago with some searching. 30 cents a round was easy to find.

Just curious as I don't know how any of this works... How large of an order would you have to place to buy direct from a manufacturer? For both guns and ammo.

Well, you can but direct from Wilson Combat in qty: 1ea. As well as most of the custom shops.
Run of the mill stuff for the public? Probably gotta have enough to write an LE/Gov contract and even then you’ll still have a wait.

From my experience in the industry it is all about volume. Take for example magpul. If you were to call them direct for a price on pmags, you would have to buy pallets. For guns and even some accessories, there is a min buy in. Sometimes it is a number of units, others are a dollar amount. Vortex for example is a 5k min order. On guns there can be promos that are buy 5 or 10 get one free. Sometimes it is buy a couple pieces of crap to get one that will sell.

As a small guy your wholesale price may be more that the next guy is selling it for. Think of a store like cabelas / baspro that can buy direct and need to stock dozens of stores. They get a price break because they order 50 of one skew.

That is also why walmart (is / was) the cheapest place for ammo. They would call up federal ATK and buy a semi full of ammo and handle all the logistics to store. You cannot compete when you are buying 2000 rounds to put on a shelf.

As in all things fortune favors the bold. It is kind of like racing. The only way to make a little money is to start with a lot.

Yeah, that's a given. They obviously have long term contracts they have to fill before any new ones.

Vortex for example is a 5k min order.

These numbers are a lot smaller than I expected. I'm guessing it depends a lot on the manufacturer, too. I was imagining someone like HK not even wanting to talk to you unless you're placing a $500k order.
