Yeah, I tend to agree with the sentiment.
However, I feel that we need to build a massive and vigorous recall effort to get all the bad actors out. Swiftly and positively. If not, just think what the next generation will attempt after this mostly successful test run of authoritarian control.
They may still attempt it, anyway. Hopefully, the certain loss of their power will be a deterrent.
