NYPD did that a few years ago. Crime went down.
I'd like to see the stats on that.

Police take their orders from the elected city government. The public votes in progressive idiots like DE Blasio and you end up with a poorly run police force under political control. This is not Tom Sellick of Blue Bloods. If the public wants an effective police force than the city leadership must be effective. Police force does not work very well when they have to stand down as ordered by progressive politicians.
Eliminate the civil service system and the unions and you can fire bad cops. There are plenty of bad cops too, ask Serpico.

Well said Rotor. I agree completely.
Many police departments are only as good as it's leadership. Poor leadership usually results in poor performance by many of it's officers. The good officers will leave as soon as possible.
The counter point is, what sooo stupid event made the person start recording? Why were they so outraged. I've seen this stupidity in the Open Carry movement stuff with officers just trying to act tough and bully their opposition. I tend to presume innocence because I've seen this kind of thing go down.
So I was going for 'community oriented'. I realize they are elected but its not been my experience the race is particularly partisan. Again might just be my experience but they seem to be more concerned and involved with the communities they represent. YMMV

After listening to a talk show discussion on this today, I have downgraded my response from "Idiotic" down to "May Have Merit".
They were talking about creating a NEW and super-woke group to provide for public safety. Maybe let them try it for a year?
I think they would discover two things:
1. The job is not as easy as it may look on TV shows.
2. You sometimes have to use force when detaining a criminal. You, and also the criminal, may be injured while doing so.
I continue to be baffled by the continued jackboot licking coming from many people. When has THIS become a thing, even?
Completely undisirregardlessly of the intentions, motives, organizers of the current goings-on, the police, local, state or federal are NOT your friend, and we all knew this once. Was it the post 9/11 "first responder hero" idolatry that changed this, or did I miss something else? JBTs are gonna JBT. They're gonna drop bombs on you, they're gonna bayonet you, they're gonna shoot you in your sleep and stomp your cat and then sprinkle some crack on you.
