    Hello,

I recently completed an AR-10 (.308 Winchester) build where I am looking to finish it off with a decent optic. It's mostly Aero Precision parts with an 18 inch barrel. I built this rifle wanting something of a hybrid setup that did have some reasonable long range capabilities, but not just limit me to long range shooting. "Battle Rifle" capabilities if you will.

I have some AR-15s with Eotech optics, as well as a varmint rifle AR-15 with a heavy barrel and some lower end glass. But for higher end scopes or other optics, I'm something of a noob.

Attached is a photo of the rifle. What do y'all think?

    Out here by the lake!
Best scoped .308 I own is my hunting rifle. It sports a Swarovski ZFM 6X42 with a Bullet Drop Cam. They were the shit in the 60's & 70's. Might be a great find if you can locate one

For similar money consider leupold. With Nikon not making scopes and having had vortex in the past I’m happy with leupold.

Great glass on these, over 50% off retail.
I have an HD LH 4-12 (might be 4-16) and not only is the glass amazing, but it’s incredibly lightweight.

Their HD glass is excellent, especially at the price point.

Man. Seems you'll be spending at least $900-$1,000 on a Razor scope. That's just more money than I was hoping to spend. I don't think I'm prepared to spend any more than $500.

I've got Nikon 6-24x50 BDCs on my LR308s. Very good for the $ but alas, not much warranty anymore -well, they say it's good. Get a pebr or other good steel one piece mount - set and forget - remove and replace - still good to 200. If I were to build another I'd go with the vortex swfa is too much $. The x24 probably isn't needed but it serves as spotting scope as well.

Been doing lots of reading and research on both 1st and 2nd focal planes. Also, MOA vs. MRAD.

I'm open to recommendations on either, for somebody that will be a beginner longer range shooter.

I hear the Diamonback tactical 4-16 has better clarity than the 6-24 version. I got a Vortex Razor HD lightweight hunter on sale for around $500. Gass is very clear and their miling reticle. I have an SWFA HD 1-6 on my FNAR and love it. I can make accurate hints at 400 yards with it. I never intended that rifle to be my "sniper" rifle. It's great from 0-400. (Farthest I've taken it)

You give thought to a 1-6 or 1-8. Either Primary Arms, Vortex, Khales ...

That might be more along the lines of the battle rifle feel, but offer some longer range reach.
