Not sure of your specific need but I used Chris Jackman at Anna Eyecare when I lived in that area. No idea if he's a shooter but I wanted a prescription specific to how I work on a computer several years back. I brought in my work laptop and he worked with me for a prescription regarding the size and distance.

Now I just work from home and use oversized monitors...

If it's concerning your near vision, they usually have a bar holding an eye chart that is lowered to check your near vision correction. The bar usually extends a pretty good length. Have Dr put the chart at whatever length your trying for.

You're better off understanding what exactly you need so you can properly explain it, rather than trying to find a "gun guy" who has similar vision issues and knows what to do.

What exactly are your sight issues with a pistol? Many people need magnification (readers) to clearly pick up the front sight. Lots of places sell safety glasses bifocals with readers at the bottom for those of us with weaker eyes. That's great if you're laying down and shooting. Some companies also sell the bifocals with the reader windows at the top so you can tilt your head down slightly and view the sights through the readers.

My point is, figure out the distance from your eyes to the front sight post and let the eye doctor know you need to see something clearly at that particular distance if the off the shelf items don't work for you.

Okay, what I would really like is to have a pair of glasses with the top portion set to about 25", the middle for distance and the bottom for reading. Right now I have to lean my head way back to focus on my front sight. It's very awkward. I may have to surrender to a red dot, but I will miss my iron sights.

I can tell you it’s really hard to find the happy medium. I have shooting glasses with cheaters at the top. I can see the front sight post but the target is fuzzy. I guess it’s good enough to hit center mass but I’m used to blowing a ragged hole in the target and I’ve not been able to do that lately.

I guess I’m gonna have to get a set is over the glasses shooting glasses. My progressive bifocals can usually find a reasonable compromise.

When I wear my contacts, I can no longer see up close.
I wear magnified shooting glasses, which allows me to see the sights clearly, but, as you stated, the target is blurry.
I reckon only fix would be shooting with both eyes open, and only magnification on your dominant eye.

I'm playing with red dots now myself. Have you looked at the Trijicon HD sights? The big orange front sight with tritium insert is what I use. Kinda like making the text bigger to make it easier to read.

Not trying to be pedantic but isn't that normal if one is focusing on the front sight?

Yeah but it’s bad fuzzy not just a little fuzzy, like nothing but a blob.

Like I said I’m sure plenty good enough for self defense distances but I’ve had perfect vision all my life. This sucks.
