    Posted info is fine IMO.

Don’t think posting phone numbers would be a good idea.

    Good call.

Maybe posting the number with the last two digits removed would be enough for another member to message the OP to confirm it's the same number to avoid a similar situation.

He knows nothing about where I'm from, he got no personal details about me whatsoever (except my number) - so I don't see how it's about getting me out of the house.

I'm just so extremely weirded out by the illogical aspect of it all, he doesn't know me so I don't understand what kind of satisfaction will he receive from stealing 4h of my time. He got no money out of it, nothing.

Someone mentioned outing him - Can I publish his name / number to avoid any other tgt members from getting scammed? I do not wish to break any forum rules.

Also, how can I reduce the probability this happening in the future? I thought perhaps always to call the person beforehand (we just emailed/texted), but I don't want people to think I'm weird or something. I also have a foreign accent, but I guess that if someone doesn't want to meet me because of that we shouldn't meet in the first place..
Before you take action, make sure there was not a good reason.

E.g., accident, death in family, etc.

Much better way to go about it.

Auto dialing and harassing someone when we don’t actually have a confirmed reason why the deal fell through is extremely immature.

Besides that, I like to think we are better than that. Going after people over something that was read online is way beneath us and the forum will neither support or condone such activity.

I'm not looking for revenge of any sort, my point is mostly around ensuring other forum members won't get scammed as well.

his number is 210-95245xx , email is kstanforth<xx>@gmail.com

Regarding "something we read online", I have no skin in this game, I posted the entire correspondence, and I was the one who didn't want to share his personal information to begin with - so with all of these inputs in mind, I hope you can see it doesn't make a ton of sense that I'm making this weird story up... (I wish)

FYI....If you are looking for a used Glock, GT Distributors in Austin has plenty of police trade-ins that are in great condition. They're decently priced and you can inspect them before purchase. Furthermore, you won't have to waste time on all the fickle bitches out there. So far I haven't had an issue with anyone I've dealt with through TGTrader (I just roll my eyes at the obvious idiots and scroll on). I always look over all the "scam alerts" when they are posted so I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that would appreciate the heads up on this particular incident. It would also give the guy a chance to explain himself if he happens to see your post.

I don't know why there are so many scammers out there. Look at Craigslist, if you see something with a really good price and the email posted in the ad like tony@gmail.com it is a scam. They always use a gmail account. Is there some type of joy posting this? Can they rip you off? I prefer Nigerian letters, Dearest Beloved: I am …..

It aggravates me when people post a 'scam alert' message on a classifieds site as if it were a forum. I always flag these messages and wish that everyone would do the same.

I don't need some person that doesn't know the difference between a classifieds site and a forum warning me about a scam. Most people are smart enough to recognize a scam when they see it.

Maybe that is true - that MOST people see a scam for being a scam; however, there are plenty of folks out there who do not recognize scams as being scams and thus scammers make money and the scammed lose it regularly. It is true is that there is a sucker born every minute and that scammers never give a sucker an even break (regardless of who first said either, they are spot on).

I didn’t mean to imply you made the story up.

I was pointing out that people on the internet start lighting torches and grabbing pitch forks with half a story.

The comment was not directed specifically towards you.

I had something like this happen before. Luckily, it wasn't an inconvenience for me since I was passing through that area anyways. I made a deal with a guy and was going to buy a bayonet off of him. He just randomly ghosted me right before the meet up. Never heard from him again. It's weird, but it does apparently happen.

Same thing for me. We arranged meeting at safe place (sheriff office) and he was no show even though he said he was police.

Be VERY careful w/that one - several years back, we had a guy out of the Austin area that was buying firearms w/hot checks because "he couldn't get to an ATM" because he was working so many hours as an LEO. He made a run at one I had listed - thankfully, my "scam sensors" went into overdrive, and I declined. I found out later that day he'd done that w/another seller, so we set him up and got him busted by NBPD. I wouldn't be surprised if he's back at it.

Gotta be careful....I recently met a guy who wanted to buy the pistol I advertised on TGT. When we met, he appeared well-mannered, knowledgeable, and made a fair offer paid with cash. Then we parted on amicable terms with no disagreement or hard feelings at all.....

...after thinking about it, he didn't seem in any way like a TGT member at all. I think I got scammed!
