This is all becoming quite reminiscent of the riots of 1967 and 1968. Bunch of people killed in 1967 in those riots and thousands were injured. 1968 was another very bad year with lots of riots and other disturbances mostly related to race and the war in Vietnam. Of course, some were started due to the assassination of MLK but there were plenty of others. I remember watching them on TV and going up on our roof to watch the flames and smoke coming from neighborhoods only a couple to a few miles away. I also remember seeing a brick with a ten or twenty dollar bill attached that had been filmed by a news crew. Supposedly another news crew did that to try to get folks to hurl bricks at authorities so they could get a good shot and a story. Don't know if any of it was true or not though but can say without a doubt the media was scum then and is worse today.

Some crazy goings on back then for sure. Hope this current situation does not become as bad but today's politicians and bureaucrats are inept as ever (maybe probably more so today) and have learned little if anything from the past. Thus, I fear the past may repeat itself currently and this situation even may explode far beyond what it is now and beyond what it was back then. What with folks having been cooped up for so long and already angry at the government on all levels, the hot weather already upon some parts of the US, this apparently senseless killing of George Floyd, the recent killing of Ahmaud Arbery - it is one very bad explosive mixture that has lots of potential to become much worse. I hope not though but am keeping my self-defense equipment at the ready just in case.

On a personal note, I have experienced some - how shall I call it, I suppose racial resentment from folks is the way to say it. That from folks I have greeted in a friendly manner in the local park while out with my mongrel for a walk. One guy growled a hello back to me through clenched teeth with a look of abject anger on his face when I said good morning to him yesterday, he tensed up and I believe he balled his fists; he got me a bit concerned but he kept going. A woman today gave me a definite nasty look, pursing her face and frowning at me, when I said "hi" to her as we passed one another in the park. Racial tensions are obviously quite high even where there are no riots. Truly a sad/bad time for all of us in the USA.

During the 9 o'clock hr tonight, ABC preempted programming to cover the riots. The on seen reporter (DC, LA, Detroit . . I don't remember) said the majority of "protestors" have been peaceful.

Back at the news desk, the anchor, who I can't recall his name or locate him via a "05/30/2020 ABC news" search said things may get worse because *Trump is a combative politician by nature, look at his Tweets*.

I think we all know who the combatants are.

Don Lemon the other day on CNN essentially put the blame for George Floyd's death on Trump being responsible for the conditions that got him dead.

Lemon is a commentator or, "presenter" as they say in the UK. I referred to news, or what should have been "the news". Of course that's been a misnomer for quite a while now.

And tonight they run the chyron saying cities riot while trump is silent.

CNN has one game plan. All trumps fault all the time. I'm sure they probably think people breaking into CNN headquarters, and complaining they are stoking violence, were trumps secret army of blackface disguised racists.

Their audience is mostly captive in hotel lobbies and airports. Without that they are in a race with MSNBC to see who can be the first national news channel to loose to the hickville use public access channel in viewership numbers.

Stupid reaction by the public. No doubt about it. As for the George Floyd incident. That officer murdered him and should get whatever comes to him.
I don't want to excuse what the former cop did, but what about the medical examiners report that says there was not evidence that the death was directly caused by the cop?
The autopsy revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation. Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease. The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.

I figure the murder or not thing will play out in court where the facts will come out. The being a dick part was pretty self evident, former cop is the right call.

Yeah he needs to have the book thrown at him. All four of them on site do. The only question in my mind is if it's murder or manslaughter. Based on the preliminary ME report, and until I read the MN statute on third degree murder, I would have said that it is definitely not murder, but almost certainly manslaughter. But with MN law, it could be third degree murder.

I'm not sure of what to make of the ME's report on the cause of death. Possible intoxicants? He either did have drugs or alcohol in his system, or he didn't. I know for a fact that drug testing doesn't take very long to get a report about. Results can be had in a few hours now. It appeared to me, that the cause of death was suppose to some way try to alleviate responsibility of Chauvin causing Floyd's death due to underlying health reasons. IMO, it doesn't.

I seriously doubt that Chauvin woke up that day, and made a decision to kill someone that day. From some of the information about previous incidents with possible complaints about his dealing with people that is surfacing, I think it's possible Chauvin should never have been in LE as a career. Hus superiors had to be aware of this, but yet, he was still wearing a badge and in uniform.

I see a much larger problem. His fellow officers, especially those other three. They essentially did nothing. The stood there and watched Chauvin with his knee on Floyd's neck, until he died, and did nothing. His superiors are another problem. They knew of previous complaints about Chauvin, but still he was wearing a badge and doing the job. They could have made him go to counseling, or even fired him, and they did neither.

Actually from a video from another view the only one standing was the oriental (?) cop and all three of the cops had Floyd pinned down with Chauvin on his neck.

I don't know, I think it could just be a straight honest report. The fact that the neck hold wasn't the primary cause of Floyd's death does not remove responsibility for the death from the ex-cops. It might be significant for the particular charge and/or sentence, but he and the others need to be held responsible for the end result. He clearly violated his department's policy and acted outside the authority of his commission.

To the actions based on the complaints, I think that's a lot harder to figure out. Any particular complaint could be as much a result of the complainant and job assignment as it is the behavior of the officer. Sure a history of complaints of the same kind about the same officer from different people bears some serious looking into though.
