I've been eligible for a very long time and the most used thing was lodging during motorcycle tours. Some good, some bad , but all cheap. The PX isn't the PX of the sixties. Most AF golf courses make a good breakfast. Too old and gimpy to tour so it has been a while.

PXs/BXs are still pretty good overall, they usually have nice stuff, the prices are competitive and it beats going to Walmart! We have several options here in SA (Lackland, Randolph and Ft Sam), and as I usually am close to a military installation when I travel, I've seen more than my fair share of exchanges. In fact, it's not uncommon to be sitting in the food court of one (back when you could still do such crazy nonsense!) and completely forgetting where you are!

I was at Ramstein last September, which has always been the exchange in Germany. The new one is even bigger, but to be honest I liked the old one from our days there (95-99) better. It's now an empty field, but back then it is where everyone on the continent would go on the weekends; which is why we would go somewhere else (i.e. Stuttgart, Bauholder, Bitburg, Spangdahlem, Mainz-Kastel, etc.).

And you can always count on USAF golf courses for the best breakfasts! Most times lunch and dinner ain't bad either!

Probably my lack of usage has to do with location. Cannon is 100 miles one direction. Sheppard is 200 miles the other way and Dyess is a ways too. The most noticeable thing about being aboard any installation is the level of politeness that is often missing in the civilian world.

    In the woods...
If it wasn't for the commissary on Lackland back in the late 80's, I think we would have starved to death.
I remember there being a particular etiquette for arranging your items on the conveyor belt for the cashier to ring it all up! That was WAY before items were scanned!

I was stationed at Spangdahlem and lived it Bitburg. I frequently went to the BX at Ramstein because ours was nothing special. I definitely agree if the AF golf course breakfast.
