According to their website, STI is no more. They're now Stacatto - and with that, another Texas company has been erased, IMO. A company that I once recommended to folks as being "the best value for the money" in 1911's has been taken over by "investors" interested only in maximizing their returns. They're not gun guys that'll take pride in a good gun, and work to make a mistake right - it's going to be all about how many dollars they can make on a given unit. Hell - they don't even make 1911's any more.
I'd look for them to be sold in 2-4 years to some big name company for stupid money - or else crash and burn as they flame out. Either way, I really don't care - all the current management group cares about is the dollar and they'd do whatever it takes to get it. That's why I detest the "new business model" that so many companies have adopted. It's no longer value for the dollar spent - and when that happens, quality suffers.

Their quality went downhill after the sale some years back. Earlier STI 1911's were fine pistols.

I was very disappointed as well that they stopped making 1911s. I am extremely pleased with mine.

However, my Staccato C, single stack just melts into my hands like it was custom made for me. I’m considering a Staccato double stack in the future.

The only thing I don’t like is the gay star, their new logo on the grips.

They were sold some time ago.

Yessir - but the gradual shift to double-stack only was tempered with a commitment to bring back their 1911 line "once all the kinks were worked out with the new product line." Looks like that's gone by the wayside, especially w/the rebranding. It tells me their trying to distance themselves from their origins - which is seldom a good thing, in my experience.

Average gunfight is over in 3 rounds. I'm not an LEO, so the odds of me getting in an extended firefight are slim - and something I'd be looking to avoid anyway. Beyond there - I see nothing in their compacts in 45 ACP, which is a non-starter for me - and the RMR's and rails I neither need nor desire. I'm trying to minimize the overall size of what I carry - not accessorize it to death.

They're "reinvented" the 9mm more times than I care to count over time, always with some fresh "reasoning". You're not going to help a round that deflects off a windshield by making it even faster - mass is needed. And if you overpenetrate because of higher velocity, you're not really gaining anything because you're losing energy transfer. Tell me something - what would concern you more (in terms of potential injury), being run over by a cheetah running full speed, or a lumbering elephant?

We learned the fallacy of the .38 caliber round in the early 1900's, and again in the mid-1900's...then again in the late 1900's. Physics don't change - even if you through the ball of turd faster. The only 9 mm handgun(s) I own are my three P938's - because I can slip them in a pocket. If I'm carrying on my hip, it's either a 686 snubbie (rarely), or one of my 1911's in .45, whether compact or full size.

The only thing I don’t like is the gay star, their new logo on the grips.

Yeah....and if you remove it, you lose warranty. And no way to replace it with something else.

Man, I didn't know anything about this. An STI 10mm double stack 2011 was on my relatively short list to buy. I guess I'll search the used market when time.

    Gunz are icky.
Actually, we have one. Which is why I readily recommended the STI line as an outstanding value for the price!

What kind of sorcery is this?
Never even heard of this maker. Boutique 1911 guys are all over.
I'm sure its a fine gun and all but you gotta get them on the shelves for people to buy.
Funny thing about Rock Island and Glock. Every mom&pop gun store has them on the shelf. Ready to go. I NEVER saw an STI like that.
