    In the woods...
Been eating Beach Cliff sardines for years, but most recently discovered the smaller sardines packed with all kinds of goodies like chilies, or green pepper and a whole lot of things that taste great with sardines.

But plain ole ordinary sardines as a sandwich filler with raw onions and a tad of fresh raw garlic, great stuff.

Yep, Kipper Snacks, pickled Herring, smoked Oysters, Salmon in a can, all good stuff, but such eatin aint for candy ass, man bun and mask wearing metrosexual weenies.

Hand em a sardine/raw onion and garlic sandwich and they'd pass out heave-ho in their lacy mask...
    Funny stuff, that!

And in a Tony The Tiger voice: Taste's great!

Damn, all the fish/sardine talk makes me know what's fer breakfast, sardines and pumpernickel toast and lots of very strong, black coffee!

I have to presume there is a date printed somewhere.
You know that those are just guidelines, right?
My girls, growing up, would refuse to eat something even a day past the "best used by" date. I tried to explain that nothing magic happened to the ingredients that very day. Guideline!

I've got a DIL that scours our pantry for out of date cans occasionally. Her findings appall her. Me, not so much.

There's one in every family, I think. When we moved out in 2018, the girls found cans with 2010 dates on them. I can't recall if I popped one open and ate it in front of them, but it would be something I might do. You know, as a "teachable moment"?

If I open an out-of-date can and it passes the sniff test, I go for it.
    I know, right?
Not sure how that works for some things. Like yogurt, tuna, sardines....
It does work for cat food. They have never turned it down.

The cats, not the daughters. C'mon!

    Out here by the lake!
Ill eat vienna sausages, but thats about as far as i go with canned meat.
Vianna sausages, corned & roast beef hash, dried beef in the jar, Spam are fine by me. As a kid my dad would break out the Armor Potted Meat. We would eat that on saltines watching TV sitting on the floor. It was my dad seeing I got fed when my mom was out doing something. No cooking, no dishes no bitching! I have nut ate Canned Potted Meat in a lot of years. I have no problem eating Pate fresh or canned. I'll eat pickled pigs feet too!

Liver cheese, Liverwurst & Braunschwieger along with head cheese, souse & hogs head cheese are good eating.
As an apprentice meat cutter I spent plenty of time slicing deli meats. A freshly opened Boars Head Liverwurst or Head Cheese is some mighty fine eating. First trip my parents made to visit I brought home Boars Head head cheese & liverwurst. The oldman was sold on Boars Head brand with 2 of their cheapest items.
