I think mine is the 40. It holds ice decently in cooler weather, the trick is you have to pre-cool the thing. Otherwise a day or two tops. I always put a couple of frozen milk jugs in a day before I was going to use it to pre-cool. I bartered for mine years ago.

Yeti makes really durable cooler. But for the average consumer, way overpriced.

Not sure how many people need a bear proof cooler.

One thing I’ve seen with EVERY igloo chest I’ve had over the past 20 years... the latches(if they had them) always broke off and made sharp edges, the lid falls off, the plastic warps and stains. Not to mention the ice is melted in under 12 hours

Having hunted and camped in the high country in California, best to have one. Fortunately I never had a bear come in when I had the Yeti to test it out. I can say that an Igloo was no match for a small 300# bear though. It sank it's teeth into the lid and off she came.

Might have called this post "what do you think of Dick's Sporting Goods" or "how do you like Cheaper than Dirt". Brings a bad taste to my mouth.

I have yet to step foot in Dicks since they did that...but that’s for another thread lol

You asked for opinions. That is mine.

And if you are that rough on coolers, then spending the money on a Yeti might be a good investment, for you.

I have a fifteen year old Coleman that still works just as well as when I bought it.

    I wouldn't buy a Yeti, but I wouldn't turn down a free one!

I use my big Igloos on fishing and hunting. Can take quite a beating with 40lbs of ice and a deer carcass in it
Saving the yeti for road trips and drinks. I’ve started to go on a lot more hiking and camping trips lately.
I think from now on, any larger chests of the yeti quality. I’ll grab an RTIC

Like I said, Yeti makes an excellent cooler, and there are people who need a cooler that is that durable.

But for me, and most users of a cooler, a Yeti is way overpriced.

Each person needs to decide if the cost is worth it to them.

Quick glance at Pelican looks priced close to Yeti.
I guess I'm not seeing it. 35 qt Pelican vs Yeti 150.00 for Pelican and 250.00 for Yeti, but you get that Yeti sticker though :D. I'll search some others.

Okay, you jump to the 45 qt and they're similar in price. Okay, at that size you get Made in the USA and cooler that performs at least as good and better in most tests done.

    Or theres Chinese RTIC.

Not sure which models you tried, but the Igloo Marine tend to hold up much better than their low end models.

I’ve had one in the back of the work truck for a couple years now. Might be the Coleman version, but basically the same cooler.

Also have a larger Igloo Marine that I take when I travel for several days. Load it with about 30lbs of ice on the way out, ad a bag or 2 if needed to make up for ice melted by all the warm crap that was in it at the start. Never came home without ice remaining.

I acquired a used marine igloo last year. Seems like decent quality. The lid came already broken off as well :/
So far, I don’t see the justification for a larger yeti for hunting purposes. I’ll save the cheaper igloos for that. Not gonna spend $400 for a deer bone to gouge it up

I bought one about 5 years ago. It's my only one and the only one I will own. It works but I hate how much i spent on it now there are similar options for less.
