I have been a member of a certain fishing forum for about 15 years. During that time any number of threads have come up that dealt with the politics of that state in regards to wildlife conservation, license fees, water politics, etc. Yesterday I visited the site and there was a thread about the closure of fishing in other states as well as the local closure of many beaches and lakes which would otherwise be places for folks to fish during this shut down period.

I made the comment that total closure of fishing and hunting was likely not to far away since the governor and the legislature of this state have never been sportsman friendly and a lot of the citizens think more of the rights of the fish and game than of the sportsmen who fund their very existence.

I was censured by the moderators who claimed my post was "too political" and critical of the government.

That will be my last visit to the forum and I have deleted my membership. Just one more example of how I see people and organizations turning belly up to not offend the idiots who are doing their best to suppress our rights and discard 250 years of American traditions.

Ha ha, all along I thought your avatar was holding a sword. Turns out it is a fly rod.

But, seriously, sorry that you had that experience. It sounds like you are well to be rid of them.

Come hang out here, where you can share your commentary on politics and the worst that can happen is to end up on a spreadsheet.

    Out here by the lake!
Everywhere is freaks and hairies, dykes and fairies
    Tell me where is sanity?
Tax the rich, feed the poor, 'til there are no rich no more
I'd love to change the world - but I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

Population - keeps on breeding, nation bleeding,
    Still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny, bees make honey
    Who needs money? Monopoly!
I'd love to change the world - but I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you... Oh yeah

World pollution, there's no solution, institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor, them and us
    We'll stop the war!
I'd love to change the world - but I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you... It's called luck

I guess I see this as symptomatic of how the membership of forums like ours has changed with newer members not sharing the same values as those who have been around longer. This forum does not see it as much but I am sure each if us can take a step back and see how the flow of political and social threads has changed as the demographics of our larger cities has also changed.

Yes, it was a West Coast forum because I spent 40 years fishing from California to Washington, mostly for salmon. I used to love going to Portland and Seattle and then fish the surrounding areas but those days, and the guys I fished with, are long gone.

The forums out there are full of self righteous, over educated liberals who see us older conservatives as stagnant moss that needs to be cleaned from the trees.

Luckily for me, there is still plenty of stagnant moss here at TGT.

    gdr,

    Hey, I resemble that remark.

Your better off leaving the commies.

I spent some time fishing/diving in your incredibly beautiful part of the world and yes, Salmon is great, but man oh man, Ling Cod for me.

Until I discovered that fish I was hooked on Specks, Red Fish, Flounder and lots of Pelagics from the Gulf of Mexico.

Yeah, next to salmon my favorites, in order were:
    - halibut
    - ling cod
    - albacore
    - striped bass (15-40 lb sea run)

That’s the only thing I miss about the West Coast. Its a long cast from East Texas to there. I am about 4-5 hours from the good Gulf fishing but hope to make it out one day this Fall.
