    ...or have you owned?

I have owned several pump action shotguns over the years; I have four currently and all are Remingtons. When it comes to slide action rifles, I've only owned two centerfire slide action rifles as best I can remember. The one I have now is a Remington 141 in 35 REM.

Had another of the same model but sold that one. Nice guns, manufactured from 1935 through 1950. If you ever find one in 25 Remington you have a rare gem that was only produced in 1935.

    Glenn B,

Several Remington Model 760 rifles/carbines in all of the "common calibers", plus a couple of Model 7600 & the Model 7615 that my lady "decided to adopt" (& that I'll likely NOT ever get back. - She said, "It's just my size." & "You have lots of rifles. I'm keeping this one.").

    baboon,

Fyi, my "pet" Model 760 in .300SAV from 1954 is as accurate as 99% of bolt action "off the shelf" rifles & semi-autos.
    and
It's FAST for a 2nd shot IF you need one.

Further, IF you normally shoot an 870 (or another similar pump shotgun), the 760/7600 is a NATURAL for you. - It's called "muscle memory".
    and
Even in "gun UNFRIENDLY" places, hardly anyone "has a problem with" hunting with a pump-gun, whether shotgun or rifle.

When we head to southern Africa next Fall for Cape Buffalo, "plains game" and (hopefully) a leopard, my Model 760 that Jessie at JES reformatted to 9.3x62mm "will make the trip".
(Unless one runs into a T-Rex, the "old-school" 9.3x62mm & loaded with 286 grain JSP or a SOLID for "heavy game" will do most any hunting task quite well. = I'll never hunt elephant BUT many a "Dumbo" has fallen to the old 9.3x62 in the hands of a cool shot.)

    just my opinion, satx

I've one just like that except in .30Rem caliber and has the rear peep sight.
They really are a well made gun.
Wish I had one in .35Rem.

This! No reason to own one over a bolt or semi auto rifle.
I guess we look at firearms differently. You say no reason to own one over the other as if the only reason to get a gun is because one is more preferable than the other (or over the other). I say what the heck, I am going to get one and enjoy it and see what it's all about. To each their own in that regard. :)

    This.

This is my favorite gun for deer hunting. I believe it is a hard rifle to beat inside of 100 yds. Big heavy bullet, the deer didn’t have a chance.

I am not real fond of the Hornaday LEVERevolution ammo but I’ve have been really impressed with the Remington Core-Lokt.

Yeah I buy what I prefer! I would guess most peeps do. If I own a suppressed Ruger 77/22 that so quiet I hear the firing pin strike & a dedicated .22 upper for a registered receiver M-16 that I can suppress the cost of a pump .22 would be as much as the MRDS on the .22 upper! Hell I don't shoot the Ruger enough!

None. Don’t really appeal to me. Not sure what the original intent was.

I do have a bolt action shotgun I bought cheap years ago. Why? Because it was cheap. Some kid was selling his inherited guns before the SAFE Act kicked in. I made out like a bandit before I came back to Texas.

I may have to look into getting a suppressor or two but want to wait until a I buy a house as I am not sure if it will be here or in TN.

I bought a few bolt action shotguns when I was in NY, at an auction. They were cheap. I only have one now.

Lately though, while still not very expensive, they seem to have gone up in popularity and are bringing a bit more money, especially in 410 bore. I may get another one when I can get it for around $50 or $60 plus shipping. Then I'll probably be looking at refinishing the wood like I did with this one:

Sounds like someone is going to have a nice trip. I have to admit, you're making me a bit jealous.

    Glenn B,

When I was about 12-13YO, I fell in love with going on safari in Africa, as a result of Robert Ruark's famous book, HORN OF THE HUNTER & have wanted to hunt there ever since.

NOW, before I'm "too old & stove up", we are going to go, as I may never get another chance.
(Fwiw, provided that CITES does NOT intervene, I have to at least try to take a "spotted, green-eyed devil", as "she who must be obeyed" has also read my book & wants a "spotted kitty pelt to drape over the couch". - She is NOT nearly as excited to have a Cape Buff head on the den wall.)

NOTE to "conservationists" who may read this post: In 2020, leopards are MORE NUMEROUS allover southern Africa than they were in the 17th century. - Recently, a big male leopard "scared everyone to death" by "visiting" the interior portrait gallery of the National Museum in RSA & a police officer had to shoot a hungry leopard literally out of the J'burg Mayor's back yard. = Arguably, the hardest thing about collecting a leopard is getting one on your license & receiving a permit to import your trophy into the USA.

ADDENDA: I was PLEASANTLY surprised when I inquired about the legality & safety of my firearms & ammo being transported into/out of the UK, as we are planning to "interrupt our trip for 10 days" either before or after the hunt. = I was quickly connected to a DCI of the airport police, who said that "handling firearms & ammunition" for "foreign hunters" is routine for their agency & also said, "Sir, do not be concerned. Your firearms will be very carefully cared for, securely stored & loaded onto your flight, when transiting our country", inbound/outbound.

    yours, satx

Is 30 REM ammo still available in the regular ammo market or do you have to get it custom made or load it yourself?

    Glenn B,

.30REM is available from a couple of "specialty ammo makers" BUT it is NOT easy to find. = At the last SA gun show that I attended, 2 vendors had boxes of .30REM at about 1.50 per round.

OTOH, .30REM is EASY/cheap to reload, most any "recipe" for hand-loading .30-30 is suitable & the cases tend to last for many loadings.

    I have half of one
    BenelliM3S90.jpg

1/2 pump gun and 1/2 autoloader but 100% too complicated. I had forgotten how to load it when I pulled it out of the safe to prep for the 'Rona virus.

And it's not a rifle either, duh. The 'Rona gave me dain bramage.

Not nearly enough. I use to hunt all the time growing up in MS but since I moved to Texas I have found hunting to be out of my budget. So I only have a mossberg 500 defender wearing magpul accessories and a mossberg 500 410. I want to get a shockwave, 835, 930 JM pro at some point.
