While clearing out some massive weeds today - I spooked out a baby cottonmouth.

I was close enough when I spotted, it could have bitten me.

I am noticing that the only pictures posted so is a dead rattlesnake. The others who are killing “copperheads and cottonmouths “ are not posting pics. Could it be they are not 100% sure and don’t want it to be pointed out that the coppermoccassin they killed is actually a rat snake or blotched water snake?

    ;)

Hoji, I lived around here in East Texas to know the difference.

Copperheads and water moccasins are vipers, have triangular shaped heads, and slitted pupils in their eyes.

I'm not a herpetologist, but I do know the difference between most snakes in our area.

Just calling it like I see it. Folks here that “grew up out inna sticks and know their snakes” post pics of rattleheaded coppermoccassins they kill ( and yes, last year is was done a few times here) only to be corrected that they, in fact, killed a rat snake.

After that( and yes, I contributed to the positive identifications ) I simply take all coralbrake timbermoccassin killings with a grain of salt unlis photos are posted. As I said, funny how the only pic posted is one of a snake that is almost impossible to misidentify

Send me your address and I'll be more than happy to mail you my dear snakes for you to properly identify them for me.

The amount of butthurt you are exhibiting over my comments tells me everything I need to know about your ability to positively identify wildlife

    Butthurt? Hahahaha!
Not hardly. You seem to place high value on your abilities to make assumptions about other people that you don't know personally!

But you keep up the good work!

Hoji I'm not going to argue with you over your assumptions about other people's abilities to distinguish between venomous or nonvenomous snakes. It's entirely your right to express an opinion about other people.

But I have pointed out, and shown I do know the difference, regardless of what you may think.

You have yourself a great day.

Here's the coral coppermoc I caught last year. Pretty sure it's just a rat snake. Took it a few miles from home and let it loose under an overpass in a field.

Went out on the back patio, sipping my coffee and thought, wow that grout looks weird. Went a little closer and realized it wasn't grout. Was gonna hack him to death when he hissed at me, but I figured it wasn't poisonous so I just took it away.
